You'll need something to code in, or a C++ compiler.

If you plan on making/editing models you'll want a MDLDecompiler. I think milkshape has a built in one, but you might want a standalone tool. It decompiles DOLs too.

Check VERC.

I'll enter, i need some work to do. Can I have them just kind of standing around, looking at things? or do tehy have to do actions? Like can I have a Sci walk around, stand in front of some computers a while, then look at a whiteboard for a while, then just kind of repeat his little routine?

Well, it won't be an official channel, per se, but we could set it up on irc.chatbear.com (same as TWHL) on #sanitarium....should work, i've been able to make my own channels that way before. If y'all cant connect to it, ill either go and download mIRC or wait till I get home to set it up.

I had a similar idea....give the player a base to work with, and possibly a limit to the polys he can use? So you get a base, and certain blocks that you could VM, resize, retexture, do whatever with.

Yes, but I didn't see anything in that article about having hint faces towards each other. If it does say something, then it probably pertains to something in the Quake VIS tool that got fixed when Zoner's came along.

Each monster TriggerTargets a game_counter and their TriggerCondition is 'Death'. Then, you need to mess with the game_counter to make it relate to the number of monsters in that area. With a bit of practice you'll figure it out.

New WADS are always nice....though you'd probably have to use them for CZ only...I don't think VALVe would take a liking to them being used in non-CZ things.

You can download better replacement models for free.....no offense VALVe.

Hollowing isnt very helpful to me because it does it in a way that all the brushes 'interlock' if you will and it takes longer to fix it than to make everything individually.

The most common cause of errors and increased r_speeds in new mappers' maps is bad carving. ie, they had snap to grid off/at 1, accidentaly had their carve brush stuck a few units into the ground, and it will carve a little one unit indentation, which is unnecessary, looks bad, and gives 5 more faces to render, and this happening multiple times in a map can cause lag.

It may seem very time consuming now to make each thing individually, but it will save time in the long run.

Not all prefabs look that shoddy...although most of them do. There are a few really high quality ones....look up Proctor, Barneyinblue or REX on PFL.

I've posted a prefab to Snarkpit that I dont think is half-bad either :P .
