Make sure there is an origin brush on the edge of the door. this is how the door "knows" from what point to make the rotation. Also, the default axis for func_rotating is z, but you can make it rotate on any axis.

Check entity guide, tutorials, map vault examples, and forums for more information.

google "half-life modeling milkshape" or similar and you'll come up with lots of results.

Once you get into it and get the program, then ask more specific questions about what you're trying to do.

Try following a tutorial from the tutorials section, or an example map before posting a question. Posting a generic "how do i do this" type question is kind of pointless.

You can search "func_tank" in forums too, and probably come up with lots of questions to common pitfalls using that entity too, as well check out the entity guide that gives general description of it.

Your thread title doesn't really describe anything either! :\

Only for April.

The map of the month link off the sidebar should take you to the winners page and/or the current month, or at least have a link from the winner's page (i never noticed the nomination thingie in the mapvault index before!)

Sorry if has been mentioned already.

Maybe should simply make a thread for each month and have people nominate/vote for Jan-Apr.

Otherwise, when the system is back up and/or the MOTY comes due, the review team is going to be swamped with a half-dozen or moar reviews to write all at once! At least this would give them time to get started?

Or i guess you could make the nominate/vote system available for all the back months simultaneously, if that is even a possibility... :\

I'm running the -chart parameter to tell you how much of each resource you've spent, and I'm at 97% on "Leaves". So if I add another big prop or structure to the map, BSP just fails.

Short of simplifying structures and deleting stuff, anyone know some command line parameters or any other trick/method of freeing up some moar leaves?

Could we make a 2d multiplayer flash-like game we could play on the site?

Like an old-school top-down arcade game... I guess you'd have to use flash, but i don't really know, and do they make flash multiplayer games?

It would also be cool to be able to watch people play in the margin of the site while you were browsing, say under the shoutbox, but who knows? I have
no idea if this is feasible/possible, but could be neat?

DocRock: Yup you were right. I reinstalled and all is well.

Very nice map, especially the textures. Could have used some moar sounds, like the theme from the Mummy or something would have been great for the lulz.

Layout seems pretty neat too, and brushwork is simple yet entirely effective.

Good work! = )

Molding, Beams, and just a generic term for making walls less flat. Sometimes fancy textures look better than overdone brushwork, but I tend to lean towards brushwork because it's what I'm good at.

I've never played this type of map, but it looks quite nice!

Textures look fine and architecture seems good. I guess you could add more trims, different types of light structures, some suspended stuff like walkways with transparent textures, and anything else you can imagine withing your r_speed limit.

func_tanks always make any map win, but I don't know if you allow them in these types of maps. = )

Looks great HLGenius! = )

Possible suggestions for more pretty:
-some of the leave bows--which look great btw--look like there not attached
-some of your textures look stretched, try hitting "face" checkbox when they're selected. It might be tricky to make them all line up though, but I'm sure you can do it! People better than me a texturing may have some tricks to offer for this.
-Make the island bigger so you can easily step back to appreciate it, or scale the thing smaller.
-tweaks with lighting and sprites to make it look like a hazy tropical day. The lighting in Muzzle's entry was nice, maybe he has a tip or too.

Sorry for the wall of text! I go overboard a little sometimes!

)

edit: HLG's entry inspired me to experiment with some custom transparent textures:
User posted image
I know the textures themselves suck, but I'm just experimenting with different ones and at different scales and texture application methods to see what looks best. I'm trying to make the branches partially hidden but still noticeable to appreciate their details. (without much luck)

1. lure him to the conveyor somehow
2. play nice music to calm him
3. knock him on the head to daze
4. have lazors shoot his clothes off (custom skin lawl?)
5. then do all sorts of nasty cutting, deboning, and grinding
6. have the nice ground scientist meat shoot out of nozzles onto plates
8. fry the burgers
9. serve at the black mesa cafeteria!

Idk i thought precise made more clipnodes, but reduced sticky corners. I use precise most of the time too, but my map makes too much clipnodes with precise; maybe it depends on the map?

Anyway i found another way to drastically reduce clipnodes which goes along with what you were sayin: I dropped my clipnodes from 97% to 74% by taking a half-a-dozen intricate buildings/vehicles and making them func_illusionaries. (using then simple clipbrush shapes to approximate the shape of the bugger like you'd do with a model.

Now i can build the protoss portion of my map using this method! It should be noted you'd probably never use this method in a regular, playable map, as my wpolys are up around 5000 right now, lawl. Probably in a normal, well-built MP map, you should never run out of clipnodes.

It's the same idea as the recent thread posts on the front page, just extended. It would just be easier/more efficient to monitor recent thread activity, at least in my view.

As far as the create thread form being messed up, you wouldn't need one, because when you click on a thread it takes you into that forum--just like the recent posts on the front page.

I dunno,i'm not trying to make a big deal out of it... maybe it would be gay after-all. = >

Regarding the hlbsp: Error: Exceeded MAX_MAP_CLIPNODES error:

If you're running out of clipnodes, and you can't redesign the map, try setting the cliptype to "simple" to give some more clipnode leeway.

Zoner's Command Reference says "smallest" frees up the most clipnodes, but I've found running -CLIPTYPE SIMPLE works the best; it reduced my clipnodes from an uncompilable 150% to a compilable 99.5%!
