Im starting some scripting on my half life 1 maps, getting ready to make half life 2 maps. I can script pretty well but my question is how do I make stuff access denied for the player but not when the npc's use it. Like in half life 1 before you go in the test chamber. You cant use the retinal scanners but the npc's can. Also, how can you make it so when the npc's use the scanners the scanners will light up? Or does it do that automatically? Thanks in advance.

I used game_text and it works good, does exacly what I want it too.

Did you make the room with 4 walls or did you hollow out a cube? Maybe you ment to hollow out a cube and forgot? I dont know if thats not the problem. Reinstall hammer?

so I would have to have that file on a server so people can download it, or just include it with the map so it updates theirs?

How do you make scientists, ect say stuff. Not like verbal, but a message accross the screen, I dont know if anyone has played Sven Coop but on SvenCoop1 (themap) they have words going across the screen like a message, but you know who is saying it, you just have to read it. If anyone can help that'd be great, thanks
