Firstly, trigger_autos are activated when the map starts. Use a trigger_relay.
Also I'm not sure whether the 'hear player' trigger condition works correctly.
If you cannot toggle a monstermaker, I think you can though, you can also just kill it.

CS maps are more advanced than HL?
Are you nuts?
Nothing is harder to do than a decent singleplayer map.
Maybe a good cooperative map with a nice story, but no game features this.
Guess why so many people map for MP and not for SP.
It's much harder to find a good SP map than a nice looking MP map.
And CS is one of the easiest, you don't have to pay attention to many things. SC for example is much harder to map than CS.

Chatbear shows the average words per post amount. That might be more usefull than the post amount.
I also just noticed that Andy introduced an 'award for the best forum poster'.

Either you're even poorer than me, or you go to the wrong places to buy a PC.
I know that hardware is expensive in some countries, so you really go to ebay.
Most systems you get there already have an OS, such as Windoze98 and everything else you need.

Well the process is about 80-90%.
The hardest part is getting the r_speeds down again.
I got them below 1000, but they might grow a bit, since there is still some stuff that must be added.
I'll hopefully be able to hand it over to you till friday.
Or we could get seventhmonkey back to th 8th place, then he can start mapping while you're on your vacation and you have all the time you need after comming back.

Straight: You wont get WC to run on your PC.
Half-Life was made for 32bit systems. You should at least use Win95.
If you want to use HL/WC you must get a better PC.
Try ebay, you can get sufficent hardware there for only a few bucks.

Now that everyone post his wishes for the forum, some more things came back to my mind.
1.: Thread links should always lead to the last page. This saves traffic and low speed connection members, !!!ME!!!, will appreciate it.
2.: Lose that stupid 'Go to forum or back to the thread' page after writing a reply. Just show the updated thread window.

I'd say everyone here wants to be a MV mod, I do to.
I think the moderators will discuss this and choose wisely.
The email idea doesn't sound bad, but do you really check your emails more often than this forum. Especially when you've created a thread and are waiting for replies.
Maybe it'd be possible to do this via ICQ, MSN, AIM etc.

When creating a brush you can choose the type of it on the right.
Use 'arch' for this one.
It'll create a 'pipe' around the z-axis.

I knew it'd happen. Buggy game_texts.
We've had a dicussion whether to use env_message or not, on the thread and I agreed using game_texts, though I've had many bad experiences with them.
They have limited chars amount.
They tend not to work for no obvious reason.
And they even may cause HL to crash.
Now that I have all these three problems, I must ask for permission again.
Can we please use the titles.txt for ingame text messages.
No one else has used any type of text messages on this map yet, besides me. So we wont have to hand the map to all the ones that already built their part.
I think it will make life an mapping much easier for everyone.

I think there is someone skilled enough out there to connect the two maps intelligently, so that the work on the second one can begin now.
Now that I finally got a functioning sound card I can map much more intensively.
Anyone bothers about r_speeds > 800? :)

Use a normal ambient_generic with the 'play everywhere' flag.
Put it somewhere near the border of the map to reduce the surround sound effect.

Anyway, the color of a semitransparent decal is taken from the last color in the palette.
If you want green decals, launch wally and open a blood decal.
Open the palette dialog and select the last color. Now you can chage the color the decal will have ingame.
The normal decals.wad contains red and yellow blood decals.

Afaik only decals in the decals.wad will use the semitransparent mode.
All others use normal masking with one transparent color.

Good to see that the father of TWHL is back and will, together with us, reorganize this place.
Everything sounds good so far.

For the ranking system, I think there should be some little descriptions for those special members whereby every senior member can specify a little text that is diplayed below his name, like this:

atom - He started this very community.
Jahzel - Leader of 'Problem-Reaction-Kill'
etc.

I also think that the most important thing we need are rules.
Just one page of rules, if you want to join you have to accept them.
And if somebody breaks the rules to often, he will belocked or banned.
This would also require to disable annonymous posts.
Also I think alike about the map rating system.
Maybe everyone could add some search keywords to the tutorials, and when someone posts a thread, an automatic search system will look for one of those keywords in the thread. If one was found, it'll automatically show a list with tutorials that deal with this topics.

It's free and as good as PSP or APS.
If wally is messing up images, you should check your settings.
@mini: I asked for a mapping part, too. I think there isn't much space for mappers. I'll try to make some textures and models for it.

Firstly, the newest compilers can be found here.
They contain the RAD exe from xp-cagey's p13 tools and the CSG, BSP and VIS exe from the p15 tools.

I think we need some kind of zip file scanner, which looks into the zip and checks the maps for HL entities, CS entities and neither HL nor CS entities.

But to do all this we must get atom back here for a while. It seems to be very hard to contact him.

You could add a teleporter to the spawning area, which is activated as soon as you arrived where it leads you.
Most maps do it like this.
If you're really good, you can do it without.
Some maps are built very cleverly so that new paths can be accessed while you advance.

I think that, at least after VOX's goodbye-thread, everybody knows that TWHL, as we know it, is dead.

I don't want to talk about the reasons or the question of guilt here.
I want to suggest try to keep that what made TWHL so special alive.

Me, Mephs, jaardsi and Xargol have been talking about this yesterday and considered several ideas what could be done to prevent the TWHL losing its old quality even more.
I will list them all here, regardless of what I think about them, or who suggested them.

1st idea:
  • An IRC channel where all the former regulars meet.
Advantages:
  • We would still have contact to the others and could discuss new projects etc.
Disadvantages:
  • It wouldn't more than a simple chat. Nothing in comparison to TWHL.
  • No real competitions, no place to upload maps, no forum where topics can be discussed much longer than one day.
2nd idea:
  • Finding alternative communities.
Advantages:
  • We would still have contact to the others and could discuss new projects etc.
  • There might be a place which is not so overfilled with bratty respectless members.
Disadvantages:
  • It would be quite hard to rally all former members there.
  • Most of us would be new to this community, too.
  • It is unlikely to find a community or mapping site that is similar to TWHL.
3rd idea:
  • Add a 'Special Member Area' to TWHL.
  • Only special members can decide about new special members, by election or voting.
Advantages:
  • No one would have to leave this very place and we could continue as before.
  • In this area, we could go on creating quality work and having serious discussions, without being disturbed by outsiders.
  • TWHL would not have the same fate as many other forums or communties. Becoming a simple helpforum with 95% bratty members.
Disadvantages:
  • You could consider this as an unfair discrimination.
  • This would require changing the current appearance of TWHL.
4th idea:
  • Form a completely new community for those old TWHL members.
Advantages:
  • We would be in private for a time.
  • We would still have contact to the others and could discuss new projects etc.
Disadvantages:
  • It would not be the same as TWHL.
  • The same thing which is happening to TWHL could happen to this place too.
  • It might again be hard to rally all the old TWHLers.
  • We would need a host and new administrators and moderators.
5th idea:
  • More strict moderators here.
Advantages:
  • Respectless and bratty behaviour would be punished by timed disabling or even banning.
  • It might restore or at least keep the quality of TWHL.
Disadvantages:
  • This would be discriminatory again.
  • TWHL is supposed to be a place for everybody.
  • This would be a fulltime job and might require more moderators.
6th idea:
  • Flood TWHL with high quality work.
  • Win all the competitons with extremely good entries.
  • Post a lot of decent maps into the vault.
Advantages:
  • This might scare off people that are only interrested in having some fun with 100kb maps.
  • It would certainly raise the quality of TWHL.
  • New members would have a measure so they know whether their work if good enough to be uploaded.
Disadvantages:
  • Again this might result in discrimination.
  • TWHL is also made for people who are not so good mappers, modellers etc.
  • It might be a hard job.
7th idea:
  • Similar to number 5.
  • A 'report member' feature. People can report inappropriate behaviour to the moderators.
  • Members who don't behave right can be banned.
Advantages:
  • People would probably think before they write something from time to time.
  • Ignorant brattys would be filtered out.
Disadvantages:
  • Discriminatory.
  • One could also abuse this featrue.
  • It would also mean a lot more work for the moderators.
8th idea:
  • A timed delay before new members can access the forums and the vault.
Advantages:
  • People who just look for a quick fun could not spam the forums and the vault.
Disadvantages:
  • This might also scare off potentially serious new members.
That's it so far.
Of course we could combine these ideas.
It's just important to do something and not just standing around while TWHL is drowning.

If you want to express your oppinion about those, reply.
Don't reply if you don't really have an oppninion to express.
Also don't start a discussio about the reasons for the dying or the ones that are guilty.
