Bunny hopping is key to his time. Most of the enemies never had time to react to the player.

Plus, he skipped entire levels by scaling walls using trip mines and snarks. That's really clever.

When I start HL1 via a shortcut or the command line, it refuses to load up the game on the first try. I can bypass this problem only by starting HL1 through Steam.

I don't have the same problem for HL2.

I am already thirty-three years old. I am a physician working in California.

I went through four years of high school, four years of university (UCLA), four years of medical school, and three years of pediatric residency (also at UCLA). I have been practicing for more than three years and I have seen thousands of patients.

I am in the hospital right now. My shift is just about to end. It's been a busy day--lots of kids came in to the hospital because of asthma this week. It has been very windy lately.

I believe most people's dislike of HL2 is based on the fact that the game environment is based in the real world. By doing so, it's basically limited in the "imagination" department compared to HL1.

HL1 is also much more conducive to mapping, because the texture collection is so versatile. Perhaps that's another reason for disdain for HL2. After all, this is a mapping community.

But that shouldn't make HL2 an inferior game. Can you honest say that there wasn't a sense of awe when you're first strolling through the train station, watching the realism around you? The immersive experience is exquisite. And Valve sacrificed variety to realism. It's comparing two completely different style of games.

And as you can tell, people's opinion varies, based on what they like personally from a game.

I like both games, for different reasons. HL1 is a wonderful breakthrough in gaming. Dare I say that it's as much a breaththrough as the original Wolfenstein 3D. HL2 carried that legacy and re-invented the realism in gaming exeprience. It created an extremely realistic virtual world that has surpassed any games before it.

"The Constant Gardener" with Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz is a political drama and a love story. The plot is based on a novel by John Le Carre, a story that expertly interweaves the conspiracy and the intimate relationship between a quiet diplomat and a vivacious activist.

The film excels at all levels, combining talents in direction (the director of "City of God"), cinematography, editing, and not the least, acting. The story is involving, and it has the feel of an epic, but without the banality of a typical Hollywood epic production. I rank it as the best movie I have seen this year.

Now, before you dismiss me as being a hyperbole, I can say the movie is in par with past greats, such as "Black Hawk Down" and "The English Patient". Its portrayal of the gritty and corrupt world of Africa juxtapose with the refined but equally evil hypocrisy of the developed countries.

One thing the film could have been better is in regards to innovation. It's a traditional film produced with no ground-breaking features, but it's a masterpiece nevertheless.

Three thumbs up.

in What Made You a Mapper? Post #131526
I have been a mapper for almost exactly one year today.

My friend gave me his HL1 CD, I tried playing it, but it required a 88 MB patch to load. While trying to find the patch, I found Uplink and Worldcraft instead. Together, it's still a smaller download. So I downloaded them instead.

I found TWHL from Google, and the learning began. I was obsessed at first, spending all waking hours mapping. Then it slowed down a bit, so I actually slept and ate and went to the bathroom during compile time.

Now, I am back to leading a normal life again. I am married, and working almost full-time. Mapping is a nice hobby, but it's not all-consuming anymore.

"per diem" means I don't have a fixed schedule. Whenever they need me, they call me in for work, and I get paid by the hour.

Typically, I work between forty and sixty hours a week. But I don't get to have my own patients, and I don't have my own desk or office space. Most importantly, I don't have job security.

If they don't give me any hours for the next four months, I won't get paid a dollar. That's why I've been trying to get hired full-time.

It's highly unlikely that any of you has even heard of this film, but it's an obscure movie set in the 1960's Hong Kong. The Chinese director also directed "In the Mood for Love" previously, and Quentin Tarantino is one of his biggest fans.

The movie is titled "2064", it's a futuristic film about desperate and despondent love. It's very stylish. And most of you probably won't like it.

And the official medical definition of obesity is when someone's BMI (body masss index, calculated by taking the square root of the ratio of the person's weight in kilograms over height in centimeters) is greater than 90 percent of the general population.

http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

The BMI can be misleading for some body types. For example, bodybuilders are technically "overweight", but they are really not unhealthy because their extra weight is from lean body mass (muscles).

I am a fairly muscular guy, and my BMI is high as a result of my decades of weight lifting.

I seriously believe that my career advancement is impeded by that incidence. When the parent got upset, the department chairman just happened to be around, and he was the one who had to calm the mother down (she refused to talk to me afterward).

And now I am stuck doing per diem work for the rest of my life because of that obese kid who wouldn't take a good advice from a caring doctor.

And if anyone says there is a God, where was He to defend me when it happened?
