Iwas bored so i wipped up this camera in a few mintes, its 146 faces and you can put it in your map, wiht animations.
I only need to texture it.

camera1
camera2

Tell me what you think about it.

Looks nice.

YOu make moddelling seem so easy... :(

It is easy. Just practice alot and dont expect to make a hl2 zombie as your first model. Though i need to practice on organic modeling.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-29 17:22:54 UTC Post #99935
It's just as easy as mapping really, chow, you just have to ignore most of the options in most modelling programs, wheras all of Hammer's stuff's HL-oriented.

Dont ignore, use it, integrate it, feel it.

Is it similar to Hammer?

I mean I had a quick go without the guids and failed miserably :(

I made a square as I remember :S

Is it worth it for source? to make a model? and custom textures... can they be made using wally?

Yes, it's worth learning static prop modelling for Source because the engine really relies on props for detailed maps.

Skinning though.. now there's a pie.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 04:06:58 UTC Post #100043
Indeed. that is harder then modeling.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 04:13:56 UTC Post #100047
looks good
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 08:27:16 UTC Post #100095
The thing is, skinning can be very dodgy, you can make a metal texture and place it anywhere, now it will end up either diagonal, downwards etc depending on how you modeled it.

Feel the power of uvmapping(bows to lithunwrap)

wiht uvmapping you flatten your model by un-packing it as you would do wiht a cardboard box. then you save the model, i usualy save it is a ms3d file. If you do that he saves the coordinates of all the vertexes and faces on the 512x512 workspace. then you save it as a bmp texture and it will be applied to a material on milkshape.
Then you apply a material to the groups whom are uvmapped on the texture. and there you got your model ready for texturing.

Hmm does it give that multicoloured line effect that you have on the knife model?
Habboi HabboiSticky White Love Glue
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 09:45:21 UTC Post #100101
Yep, it colours the groups, then its easier for the skinner to recognize where what part belongs, but you can turn that off offcourse.

Here is another example of uvmapping

As soon as it is completly finishd and tested.

I would use it :D

What's really lacking in HL2 modeling are small bushes and things like palm trees.

But I imagine that's diffiicult to model. I love the HL2 tree models, though. They did a really good job at those.

NOt really, just normal planes wiht a aplha texture on them. its mostly the texturing that is the problem.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 14:43:21 UTC Post #100177
Sorry to seem negative Pepper but your camera looks slightly bulky (fat)

But it may be like that where you live, but where I live they are slightly thinner.

It is a combination of serval reference pics i found. and im scaling it down, so it doesnt look so big in-game.

It's not quite out yet, so you might need to wait for the mod (Insurgency). Model is by Pericols0. Here it is.

Ah, pepper, very nice model! Can't wait for the release, I may need to incorporate it into a couple of maps.

Question, should i make it wiht ore without animations?
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 07:50:19 UTC Post #100336
I think with: it looks like the type of camera that would pan from left to right.

there should be one with animations and one without.

Alright, here it is ingame, still un-animated.

close

And add a sprite in hammer and you got a eerie looking camera.
Im watching you!

Tell me if you like it :)

I hate you, Pepper! :P

You need to write a tutorial on this.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 11:20:43 UTC Post #100875
Heh, excellent. Shouldn't the sprite be in the model, though, for when it's animated?
Seventh-Monkey Seventh-MonkeyPretty nifty
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 11:23:36 UTC Post #100876
I know i should. maby in the upcoming weeks il write a tutorial.

And the sprite is hardcoded in the model, and i have no clue on how to do that.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 11:35:09 UTC Post #100877
Then you should read a tutorial.

I cant find any sources for hard-coding the sprites into a model.

On the other hand, i created a animation that makes you..... dizzy....yeah, thats the right word, its going so frickin fast that it makes me crazy.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 11:57:24 UTC Post #100881
Alright problem fixed, i set the fps 60, just as much as my keyframes, this means that the model was playing the animation in one second instead in one minute, so i set the fps to 1 so the model now completes the scanning sequence wihtin one minute.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 12:21:30 UTC Post #100883
That's a bit slow. I think 4fps would be better (15s/scan).

Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 12:26:02 UTC Post #100884
Nah, its a slowly rotating one. But you can see for yourself soon, im finish up the final touches on my website for the download.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 12:35:08 UTC Post #100885
I reckon that really is too slow. 2fps at least.

Posted 19 years ago2005-04-02 12:38:36 UTC Post #100886
You dont want to know how fast it was going at first. And if you still dont like it after you have tryed it then i might make a quiker one especialy for you

You can pick up the model at my website:
