How to make one of those "Failed to preserve mission critical personell" things
when killing a scientist?

Have a look at this fine example map:
Game End

Instead of the door triggering 'stopit' change your Sci's 'TriggerTarget' to "stopit" and 'Trigger Condition' to Death...

Actually, try the player_loadsaved instead. That way, it actually goes back to where you last saved and it fades before it loads. The game_end would actually go back to the splash screen.
