Well, Since I've had some extra time on my hands for mapping, I decided to try my luck at HL2.

My first time with HL2, so please treat me as a NOOB.

Well, I have a very noobish question that has probably already been answered, but until TWHL incorperates a better search button, I'll ask it here.

How do I make a sky?

I want just a regular nightime sky.

Same as normal :).

For the sky names, tap 'sky' into the texture box. They use the same naming convention as for HL1.

At the moment there is no night time sky so black will have to do e.g. black texture with lights to make stars.

Sorry for Triple post, but...

There is no "Sky" texture, just a bunch of "Skybox_texture" things.

Which one to I use to make a sky???

The sky texture is tools/toolsskybox, the skybox_texture ones are for the sky images (like the tgas). There's a nighttime sky, sky_borealis01 or sth. Filter "sky_" for all the skynames (they're like sky_leetz0r01lf like the tgas - remove the lf.)

hl2world.com have a nic elist of skys. Just paste them into the skybox type in map properties.

How do you light a sky equipped map? ("Is Sky?" is NOT one of the light_spot options)

light_environment is want you want to use (I believe they use it in Source as well as HL1)

light_environment DOES NOT light a map with a sky in HL1. I learned that the hard way a long time ago. But I'll try it for HL2
