--sry if this is in wrong place but it is mod related
not yet offical!
me and tosse are getting things ready to start on the mod (e.g web page , full story ect)
i am sorting out web based operations and hit these problems.
how i create a shout box (like the one on this site)
and how i make the entire site need a username and password (set by admin--me) to veiw content so people don`t get all our souce codes?

Fragmeister: google it. look for "free shoutbox"
You can get free sign-in type sites, with easy to use site makers.
I think a good one to use is called Mambo!

You guys are getting a little ahead of yourselves, it seems. First of all, you need web site hosting. Tekcities is not up as of oct 11 05, and to have a shoutbox/user accounts... you need some sort of server-side scripting (like php.) TWHL is written in php, but it is the result of several years' work and apparently several revisions. I would suggest that you find yourself a web coder to set something like this up for you. (note: tekcities does not allow scripting.) Alternatively, you could have a web site on a free host, and use a file upload service (like fileplanet.us, from the same people who bring us tekcities) and only give the people working on the mod the password. Again, I suggest that you find a web designer, leaving you guys free to work on the more important aspects of your mod. (that was a little long-winded, don't you think?) Anyway, I hope that this helps. Good luck.

i have hosting (30 mb)
they seem to let me do anything legal.
this is a simple site for uploading work completed by people working on the mod in the future.
i how now got a free working shout box that works :)
all i want is when people enter the sitre they have to enter a password (scrap usernames) and if they enter the wrong pass word it won`t let them visit the site.
there is a user name needed for uploading(hhe same way i build the site)
but not downloading/viewing content.

You can get really simple passwords that work in HTML.

Before even thinking about a web site for a mod one should have actually done something first. Thinking a story, setting up a web site and then starting to work on the actual project is a fast way to the unfinished mod graveyard.

But jaardsi is right, it seems you are "selling milk before owning a cow". Unless, of course, the objective of the site is for people to work and contribute to the mod. You should still have some good media that proves you're really going to work on this mod idea.

Hardly anyone knows my mod exists, I'm not making a site until I've at least got a working demo!
If it is as Kasperg suggests, you don't need somewhere fancy yet, slow down :) Relax!

Why should they? There mini-mods created by 1 person. :tired:

it`s not an offical site which is why it needs a password.
it`s for people to upload the work they have done to.
