Ya know, i've been thinking recently about this world. Our planet, our home. And i've been thinking about all the things that have been happening in the world. And what may become of our future. And i just wondered...

What do you think of the world? Of its past and future, and every aspect of our race?

What do you think of us all?...

I think enough people are sufficently unpleasant to render us doomed.

People who hoax call emergency service workers and attack them are tied as the lowest form of human life, with those who, er, kill starving orphans for pennies.

Hmm...

I personally believe child molesters are the lowest form of life...

I think our world is.. well.. neutral..

We have good, and bad, but I won't get into that, as I have already explained that simple theory numerous times...

Anyone who believes that everything is just dandy and perfect... is just optomistic, and thats not a good thing...

Ignorance is Bliss, right?

Therefore The pursuit of Ignorance is the pursuit of Bliss...
Well, the pursuit of Bliss is optimism,
so optimism is the pursuit of ignorance...
Therefore Pesimism is the pursuit of knowledge...

Well, if the world didn't suck we'd all fall off...

The western world is, in general, evil. Enviromental disasters are right out the door, more than a fifth of the population of the world is extremely poor, dictatorships with massive oppression are allowed to exist, a major exploit of third world countries takes place all the time.
The best anyone could do, for the sake of humanity and the world, would be to die. Cutting back on your car exhausts or not eating meat doesn't make any kind of significant difference.
Posted 19 years ago2005-10-31 19:25:17 UTC Post #144609
The thing is thats not the point of those ads telling you to cut back energy, Becuase your right 1 person isn't going to make a difference............
but I'm sure the ad wasnt just sent to your TV

If everyone in the world said that one person wouldn't make a difference then no energy would be saved! So I think there is a point to saving energy.

btw. who said don't eat meat???????????
Posted 19 years ago2005-10-31 19:32:11 UTC Post #144611
Don't eat meat? You should always eat meat, without meat eaters we would set the domesticated animals free, then they would die, by the millions, killing the ozone, the grass, other animals would eat their dead meat, get sick.
terrible thing to say.

You can run out of oil, though. And seeing as how no major source of industrial energy has been created besides just that, energy pretty much equals oil these days.
Also, 'saving energy', as in not leaving your TV on standy or some pathetic shit like that is just a way for humans to feel better about themselves.
"Oh, I recycled my old lamp, now I'm good". The best thing you can do is to die.

accaully ZL, the next source of industrial energy will be one of these three:

Ethyle(Sp)-Brazil and the US combined can meet the worlds needs if everything switch to it from oil. since it can be made from corn or sugar

Fusion- were getting close, but give it till 2050

Hydrogen- a new process has been developed that uses bacteria that digust waste and give off Hydrogen. this would do a job that would solve both the hydrogen production needs and the waste of the world, atleast to some extent

Obiously, Technology is improving exponetially...

A good hope for the future...

As for recycling...
It wastes more money to implement recycling systems than just to obtain more resources... As Seventh said, we are not going to "run out" of resources.

As for the Ozone Layer...
Bunch of balony... The leading cause of Carbon Floride Chlorines is Cow Methane, an obviously natural element... plus, The ozone regenerates itself pretty efficently. The only place I would be worried about Ozone Depletion would be New Zeland and parts of Australia, but I'm sure they'll get that under control...

As for cutting down Trees...
They Grow back...

As for Oil...

Petrolium might serve as a problem in the near future, as the price of it is pretty serious right now... Not sure whats going to happen here, but there is much effort in finding a solution in effect right now.

As for GarglyWargly...

I'd put my money on Fusion ;)

As for me...

I hope I live long enough to see some of these problems unravel, whether it be good or bad.

Curiosity can be a dangerous addity.

As for cutting down Trees...
They Grow back...
We're cutting down trees far faster than they grow back. One and one-half acres of rainforest are lost every second.

Also, humans have had a major role in the depletion of ozone. Chlorofluorocarbons used in hundreds of products in the 50's and 60's hugely damaged the ozone layer. Since 1979, stratospheric ozone has decreased over the entire globe?between 4% and 6% per decade in mid-latitudes and between 10% and 12% per decade in higher southern latitudes.
Saying it's all cows faults for farting is a very bad excuse, seeing as how we actually mass-breed cows and fatigue them in favour of the meat industry.

As for oil, I think the threat to run out of oil and the hunt for more oil is actually more dangerous than to actually run out of oil itself.

Excuse the eventual bad spelling, it's 03:20 and I'm typing fast.

Saying it's all cows faults for farting is a very bad excuse, seeing as how we actually mass-breed cows and fatigue them in favour of the meat industry.
A plausable solution would be to kill all the cows...

but, Ozone regenerates itself, and measures are taken now that prevent human creating of Ozone depletion... don't worry ZL, that problem is under control.

I mean, even the harmful cooling and heating systems are being replaced.. as well as aresal cans..

I DO support preserving our Earth...

Well, what exactly does "natural rights" define? Is it the right to live freely or the right to own a refridgerator? It's just a matter of priority.
I mean, even the harmful cooling and heating systems are being replaced.. as well as aresal cans..
In the industrial countries, yes. Many third world countries still use old, harmful technology which they cannot afford to replace.

I support global warming, according to Scientific American, it has saved us from a ice age that should have happened a couple of thousands of years ago (ice ages last long enought that we would still be in it, well, WE wouldn't be) not only that, but that humans before us (think rice pattie ages) had started to contribute when their rice patties (soaking in water) have rotted and decoposed exposing chemicals to the ozone.

By the way, the only reason i know that is because we had to do a report, and i just wanted to do something that would say that global warming is ok, just because she is an major enviormentalist, and a bitch.

You do realize that these "harmful cooling systems" are far from harmful. The only harmful component is the gas used, which, on old refrigerators are CFC's, occasionally HFC's. These gases are perfectly friendly as long as they aren't released. If you are going to dispose of a CFC/HFC charged refrigeration unit, you should get an HVAC/R tech to recover the gas first, since it can be recycled so easily. Emission of R12 (a CFC refrigerant) warrants fines that reach into $millions in the "Shitty states of America".

[rant]America sucks.[/rant] :)
m0p m0pIllogical.

global warming is ok
to a certain extent. But if the gases build up more and more (cars exhausts and factory's..For starters)
and once it gets to much you can only imagine what would happen..(although there have been numerous models of the future with our current greenhouse outputs)
I support global warming, according to Scientific American, it has saved us from a ice age that should have happened a couple of thousands of years ago
thats idiotic in my opinion. Because it may have saved us but with the ice melting we'll probably go into much worse (mass floodings and such)

As for energy resources, im not so worried about future fuels after oil. As Gargly has shown, there are other fuels being developed.

pepper, you're both right an wrong.
What I'm saying is what I know so this is my side of the story and what I have seen and heard and read.

The scientists these days look back at the last ice-age, and they can see what caused it.
By taking tests today, they can see if one is coming.
I bet different things could cause a ice-age.
But, we can see ice-ages coming.

Oh, and the last thing you said, I didn't understand (my english..)

Energy. Newton metres.
7th is right that energy is neither created nor destroyed, it just changes form. Therein lies the problem. Energy is conserved, but the change in entropy (disorder) is always greater than or equal to zero.

When you burn a liter of gasoline (petrol, if you wish), you don't lose any energy. But the disorder has increased and it takes more energy to recreate that liter of fuel from it's products than you got from it originally.

And, remember, gravity isn't just a good idea.. it's the law.

Its not necciscarely a problem that will threathen our excisten, thoug more a political problem, what do you think the US will do when they realise there at a horrible spot? Probably invade a country that can hold most of the northern citizens.

Just a example, the western world will become the third world in such a situation, not instantaniously, but in a couple of decennia afrika will become a strong country due to its global position.
Posted 19 years ago2005-11-02 15:52:06 UTC Post #144872
well, living underwater would bring about the problems of natural disasters even worse. Seeing that most natural occurances (volcano erruptions, earthquakes etc...) would cause a problem in moving into the sea.

On the other hand, singing under the sea would actually make sense.
In many cases, they never grow back at all.
I read about it in a school book.
i think there are few cases like that, as trees growing up in an environment where dead trees cover the earth would mean that it would be easier to gain nutrients (without competition) sunlight would get through much easier too. And the decomposing hulks of the other trees tends to help that too.
Its not necciscarely a problem that will threathen our excisten
i think thats wrong in my opinion. Because even though an ice age will not threaten humans, it will threaten our food sources. Alot of third world countries have problem growing food, and if the ice age does cover the northern hemisphere that is effectively killing off all crops. As well as eliminating much wildlife (although im sure most will adapt or flee south)

It was in fact designed for heating the atmosphere, the military wanted to kick the ionosphere up the ass and see what happened. I'm pretty sure these recent hurricanes were created, no, more likely strengthened by the pressure produced by heating the atmosphere with HAARP. HAARP is in reality, a weather modification device, a "death ray", and a research tool all in one. A "death ray" would be possible, I had written up a paper on the "death ray" that HAARP could generate, I'll find it and scan a copy for you to read later.

Its kinda like a (i know its a stupid way to put it) "fashion trend" one country has nukes, so another has to have them to "be on equal footing" with that country. And then each one wants to show of its immense power by starting off an arms race to probably develop some new shit like fusion bombs or what not..And then anti-matter bombs...

Pathetic, just pathetic.
