I have found nothing on the internet about how to make translucent/transparent materials. Like the ones seen for overlays and flat tree-lines in single player of HL2. So how do you make these, I know it's not as easy as making transparent textures for HL1. If anyone has a link to a great tutorial, utility, tool, or have some advice, please let me know.

Alpha channels, basically. If those links above didn't help, you can always decompile some existing materials to see how it's done. VTFExplorer is a good tool for such tasks.

heh, ok.
That's awsome, the whole SDK wiki didn't work for me earlier. Probably because i was on a Macintosh. (crackintrash?)

I'm gonna have to try this when i get home, i'm at skool right now :(

the treelines in HL2 are in fact skybox models

which need transparant textures just as well... ;)

Model textures are almost the same as world textures, except for some little differences.

They're actually the exact same save for the shader they use, which is VertexLitGeneric which looks buggy on flat world surfaces. (It flickers.)
