Is there any way to olay other sound files than .wav in hl1 ?
The reason im wondering is beacuse it would be a HUGE sound folder for my mod... Iv? got some music

No.

HL will only read .Wav files, unless you find a way to make the background music feature work for MIDIs or something...

Just convert your music to .Wav Format.

I believe there is a custom sound tutorial here with the exact specs...

(and an AMAZING Ambient_Generic tutorial for using the sounds)

I know how to make and use sounds, i was just wondering if it?s possible to get HL to use other sound files... I thought about using one of those programs that fools the computer that it?s reading a cd, but that would only take more space, i?t still needs .wav files :D But then i?ll just have to live with a huge sound folder, and cut back on the music for the mod, wich im making myself btw :)

You could use the cd music function and place mp3's in a Media folder in your mod's folder. It's possible that that only works on steam, tough.

So the cd music is mp3? Im going to look deeper into this... It has to be a way!

If someone have any idea of how to make this work, of if anyone is really sure it?s impossible, please tell me :D

@BL: for recording i use WaveLab, and for putting it all together and fill out with MIDI sounds or just making a MIDI song i use Cubasis

Natural Selection can play mp3s in an ambient_generic-ish way, its used for high quality ambience sounds.
But if you aren't mapping for NS, then you are stuck with waves.

Steam can play MP3s at the menu. That's it with the standard game code. I think Spirit supports some better formats.
