Fucking pwn improvement!
The revived model selection window with model render preview and explorer style directory structure rocks!

Ow, this is Hammer 4.1 :P

sweet! does it come with free pie?
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-22 18:44:09 UTC Post #148439
its the little changes i really like.

the way you dont have to switch between brush builders.. er.. like, if you make a brush blueprint, but dont create object and then do something else, when you next try to make a brush, it goes back to your first blueprint. it doesnt do that anymore.

Displacements and Models are shown in 2D view.

the clip tool can be used on all 3 dimensions at once...

em... the model screen.. oh hell, its great

Good improvements. I'd like to see the inverted alpha bug being fixed too, but for a beta, this is good stuff. I particularly like the in-Hammer model viewer but the fact that models and dismaps show up in the 2D views as well is a nice addition too.

Rotating now only goes in increments of 15 degrees unless you use the Transform tool, so it's obviously still beta, but it's getting there. Good stuff. :)

Cant get it work
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-22 20:18:44 UTC Post #148484
You need to pass the parameter to steam.exe, not the SDK.

I like these improvements as well. Autosave, wooteh.

Who started the pie spam too? I get it in silly threads like current beverages or whatever but keep it the hell out of mapping discussion.

Cant get it work
So what exactly did you try to get it to work then? Just adding -beta sdk to your Steam shortcuts properties does the trick...

Agreed.

Well. I take Steam.exe. Properties. then on the name :Steam.exe -beta sdk
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-22 20:24:30 UTC Post #148488
So, what's exatly in the properties Target field now?

Sounds like it should work anyway, try restarting Steam through this shortcut and launch Hammer, see if you can spot the differences.

"Steam -beta sdk". When i enter SDK when im in steam it is no diffecrence! Something you need to download? Couse i havent.
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-22 21:48:17 UTC Post #148508
O, I was hopeing for a second this was a non-steam version of the SDK.
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-22 22:46:28 UTC Post #148515
@ZeG: You need to include the path in there too. It's under the Shortcut Field or something, it should be pointing to C:valvesteamsteam.exe -beta sdk or whatnot.

Any games updating? Check you Steam monitor.
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 09:56:55 UTC Post #148556
It stands it updating. But when its done i check. No changes :D
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 10:02:14 UTC Post #148557
And what about the sdk? Is it updating? When update is completed, restart Steam, launch the sdk, and launch Hammer. See if there are any changes. Must be! :)
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 10:32:10 UTC Post #148561
It nope. It says it udating STEAM not SDK. SDK wont happen any changes
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 10:34:14 UTC Post #148562
Let me guess, you just renamed the shortcut?

If not, then it's just strange...
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 10:38:14 UTC Post #148563
Ok. Lets take very detailed. 1st. Im INSIDE C:GamesSteam

In there i See the STEAM.EXE i go to properties. Write on the top of properties: Steam -beta sdk

I close steam down. then i start. Go to SDK(no update there) making some stuff. NO CHANGES
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 10:42:08 UTC Post #148564
What I've done, is creating a new shortcut for Steam, which refers to

"C:Program FilesValveSteamSteam.exe"

Then I changed that to

"C:Program FilesValveSteamSteam.exe" -beta sdk

When I started Steam via this shortcut, the SDK was updating (from 75% I believe) and once it was ready, I started Hammer 4.0.

It doesn't work for me ether, :(
It is updating Source SDK though...

Well, anyways, it is tru that you can activate lights in hammer?
So you can see how it looks ingame? (with shaders, and shadows)

I like the ability to compile with HDR...
It lags me out more though with all those 2D images...

3D Clip tool and the ability to see shadows is good.

Very handy improvement.

I cant compile my maps in the new hammer. :zonked:

Damm. Why just me?!
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 14:06:42 UTC Post #148649
I havent tried compiling yet. Will soon.

But so far, the only problem i have come across, is trying to load one of my more detailed SP maps causes the windows error report dialogue box to pop up and close hammer. im living on the hope that the proper release will stop this.. or i've lost a good map

I can't go back to the normal SDK, and this is by choice. Hammer EXE doesn't redownload from the GCF. Fuckin' steam. Ruined how I map by duplicating brushes, the new selection method sucks ass.

No roll-back option to the non-beta SDK? Aww, that's bad... the selection system seems to have changed somewhat and I don't really like it either, it seems to be harder to place brushes correctly now. The rest is fine though so I'm well able to sit out the beta-period untill the real release is done, but it's a bugger for those that have some real trouble now...

Those updates need a roll-back option, that's for sure.
Posted 18 years ago2005-11-23 18:53:11 UTC Post #148699
Yeah, or just options that can be toggles on or off in Hammer options menu's or something. :/

Models are shown in 2D? Thats cool. I wish I could have had that in Hl1. :
