Ok now that i have hammer reinstalled and everything working nicely..
Im happlily 'hammering' away at my map and all of a sudden my 3-D View craps out. I was moving around in the view, and it seems to zoom in really fast and it just turned black. I cant even create a picture using the camera tool. You know, clicking the camera and dragging a line in the 2-d view. That doesnt work either.

So i restarted hammer, that didnt solve it.. i restarted the computer, that didnt solve it. Im lost.. very lost.

I've had that happen millions of times...

You clicked some other key when you were zooming around in 3-D mode.

Why It won't show back up, I don't know.

Try changing your 3-D view window into one of the 2-D ones, then back into wireframe mode.

dude, iv? never had that problem ... change the view, from the 4 mall windows to one big, and then changeback to the 4 smaller... If that doesn?t work you can re-install hammer....

re-installing hammer won?t take long, dude

Try what i said about the view windows... It?s somewhere in the Options.. Might work

do you have any brushes in your map?

and are they black?

i have a lot of bushes.
only a few are black, and those are on my jeep (func_vehicle) that i made.
I notice the camera always zooms to one area of the map
i tried that make 1 window big thing.. its shift + z or x i dont remember but that didnt solve anything.

i had a brainstorm, and fixed the problem.
i copied all the brushed then pasted them into a new window.
that worked, and i have my view back, but it still doesnt answer why it happened in the first place..

wat version are u using? isnt 3.5 still in beta so maybe it still has some glitches? unless ur using 3.4 then i wouldnt have a clue because i use 3.4 and that never happened

this may sound silly but this has happened to me b4.... the camera went so far back that all i saw was black... try zooming in and finding ur work....

It happens to me all the time, as I am rather fond of the 3D window...

What happens is that as you are editing, you click some key which I have yet to discover what, and the thing gets stuck. I once had it going constantly sideways, as I clicked D right when I clicked this other unknown evil key. Just a minor design error. No way to get around.

well i use my mouse to fly around the camera view.
as you, i am lost without the 3-d view.

Pasteing into a new map is a miracle cure for just about any glitch in hammer (ie, when you KNOW the map is correct but Hammer begs to differ.). It should be a golden rule: when all else fails, copy and paste.

... or there is some evil hiding michevious variable with no body that you fail to copy into the new map...

solves that problem, though you could easily go into the entity guide...

Tetsu0, yep had the same thing happen to me several times, but with 3.5.
C&P'ing in a new file solved the issue for me every time. I still have no idea what is causing it. I tried shift-z toggle but to no avail, recascading my windows, changing the 3d view to no success.
