You really shouldnt base peoples typing online as a reflection of their grammar skills. When I do reports for my english professor I usually get A's on them. Buisness reports, anything professional. Something so quick and meaningless as online forums really shouldnt be proof read. Its just silly. I mean stupid obvious mistakes like: You arr no make no sens. Thats just bad english. Taking shortcuts while online on forums doesnt matter. Thats all im saying

I think you can see which one portrays the better image. Besides, why take shortcuts? It actually takes me longer to write with shortcuts, I've become that proficient at using proper English on the Internet. As well as this, if you use shortcuts too much, it starts to slip into real-life: I can vouch for this, because there were heaps of students who couldn't spell for crap in my final years at High School.

Some of my younger teachers accidentally use shortcuts while writing on the blackboard. The funny thing is that noone notices at first

A mistake such as "you're" and "your" is inexcusable. It doesn't take any effort to get that right, even if you're in a hurry (see what I mean?).

Such threads make me bash my head into the wall, convincing myself, that such a dumbass, who would post a thread like that, doesn't really exist.

People generally tend to use proper grammar on IRC, too. I usually type quicker (ie no caps) but since it's a chat program and appends my name first, it's kinda ok. ;P

Has anyone ever typed this on IRC...I actually type in complete sentences, with full-on punctuation and proper capitalization when I am on the IRC.
I know it's rare, but perhaps it's because of my age. Old folgies type like that.
I have actually used an old Smith-Corona typewriter to compose a letter before. It's just like the ones you see in those WWII movies.
