To save me leafing through dozens of pages the next time I revise the to-do list, I've compounded the old thread into a new, bigger, to-do list, here. If you want to see what's going on, get on IRC.

General
  • Different themes
  • Customisable front page (selection of sections to show, etc., and perhaps count adjustment for different resolutions)
  • Statistics page
  • Adjustable onliners size, ShoutBOX size, etc.
  • "Allow remember across PCs" check for "invalid cookie".
Resources
  • Project section for advertisement, recruitment, etc.
  • Inline tutorial revisions by authors and moderators, perhaps with submission of drafts as well as suggestions
  • Members tips, moderated before posting, can be appended to tutorials
  • Multiple page tutorials
  • User-submitted tools!
Community
  • A Journal Entries page, showing all entries in descending order of date or what-have-you
  • Comments to journal posts
  • Extended profiles (lanaguages spoken, XFire addy, etc.)
  • Javascript bbcode helper
  • URL checking for maps in the MV (checking that the headers for the path return 200)
  • Good search stuff for maps, fora, others
  • Full navigation ranges for MV, etc.
  • Mass PM handling
  • Proper quoting
  • Specific bbcode ([map]id[/map], etc.) and quickcode such as q[quote body]
  • Timezone converter by member
  • Ranks or similar
  • Spam protection
  • Some colour code control
  • Better MV icons
  • PNG transparency avatars
  • Read receipts for PMs
  • Birthdays
  • Proper special threads for competitions (custom thread icons denotable by moderators)
  • PM block list
  • Computer spec's!
  • Server query stuff
  • "First language" field
  • TXT thread-save dilly
Administration
  • Detailed access control for moderation, allowing, for example, banning a particular user from shouting, commenting on maps, etc.; perhaps using groups too
  • Store registration IP
  • Togglable e-mail registration thing for tough times
  • PM to users when their threads are moved, etc.

Have you thought of putting a mapping thread which it shows everything about running a map? i mean to do a list of everything should be not used like like the optimaztion page of Zombie computer, but something better more precise for every mods not only how high is each things you do, but how long how slow it wil be how fast the errors who can be erased, well something really precise. it's just an idea like this, it's sure it will take long :|

There already is one.

Incidentally, I've done the basics of the forum now.

I'm about 30% done on the code now! I've done the forums, journals, some profile stuff, and some common functions like head ().

I remember you said you'll moderate the example maps and add a award for many good example maps.... but I don't see it in the list

Thanks for reminding me, although I probably won't do the first.

The map listings will likely have a sleek new look, though.

hmm... could we include a forum for like.. modeling? or is that too generic of a subject to get its own sub-category

Source modelling belongs in the Source Engine forum, and, uh, so on.

Thats why it's the Hl/source engine not mapping forums! ;) I think you should change the 'engine' into 'editing' to keep away thread like: "source/Hl Engine is great/sucks" Or another of those "fucking steam" threads where member just keep pointing out that steam sucks.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-10 17:42:39 UTC Post #173355
That is indeed exactly why they're called that, Elon.

Anyway, those forums are also for discussions of third-party mods like Black Mesa: Source and stuff (well, not that one, 'cos that's partially a member modification and so could go in Maps and Mods). They do need sorting out a bit.

you should add the term 'trim' to the glossary. It absolutely amazed me that Habboi didn't know what one was a few days ago..

What, you mean "a decorative surround"?

yeah... I mean, every map seems to get a comment about lack of a trim around stairs, or at a ledge.. so maybe if it was in the glossary people might add them?

TWHL3 should have a "map of the month" award, maybe a note on the frontpage or a "map of the month" trophy on the winners profiles.

I think I would make a good mod if I had more time on my hands. Maybe a map vault mod, that doesn't require as much work. Consider my help when twhl3 comes out!

If we need more Staff, we'll announce it later. For the moment, and probably for the advent of TWHL3, we aren't gonna need more staff. TWHL3 is looking great by the way: as Alex said, a few IRC members have been allowed a look at the developement process. Kudos to Alex!

Brainstorm!

How about in TWHL3 every member has a thanks meter under their avatar or in their profile where if you help someone then they can click a link that adds one point to the members thanks meter and when new people join they can check who has the most thanks and then that enables them to know whether they are helpful or not.

Got the idea from Iwannamap :) I got 5 thanks on that site and I had no idea.

Reputation systems always seem pretty pointless. If someone's given a helpful answer to you, who cares whether other people have appreciated their advice?

hopefully the abilities checklists in the profiles will show up again only more detailed, as i already said but it's not on the list.

Here's a good one:
Multiple Screenshot slots for Maps. like 8 or so, but make these optional, or if you want to cut down on the loadage to twhl3, make the extra pics only linked to elsewhere. Have one primary that will show on the vault page and more will show up in the map details. This will be nice since we all have seen map screens with 4 tiny little preview screens.

Well, I think you already done that with 4 tiny little preview screens, and we can clearly see it.IMO, no need for it.
Suggestion for twhl3:
How about changing your nick from profile?

No. Get's confusing when you can't remember who people are, and it can be easily abused.

Yea...then can we do it with the help/permission of a moderator?
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 07:50:40 UTC Post #175495
eh.
I meant larger pics, i knwo the source maps pack a lot of detail that is missed in the screeny. Lots of other websites do it and its nice to see lots of big screenies, an overhead view, and other things.

Actually some of the members already changed their nicks.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 13:29:38 UTC Post #175566
Good idea, Rimrook. The Snarkpit allows 3 hosted on their site, or 5 external links - though these don't show up as thumbnails then (which could be a nice feature: uploading thumbnails that link to off-site images, or perhaps thumbnail generating code...). :)

I still like moderator endorsed custom titles.

say if I wanted the title

Yank not aussie

I would PM 7th or rabid about it for approval. how many active members do we have? 140? it shouldn't be all that hard to look through each on for 5 seconds. with a good system
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 15:14:03 UTC Post #175596
Custom titles are a waste of space and devalue proper titles. You have a bio. Use that.

We aren't going to have people able to change their nicks every ten seconds.

I wish we had more space and bandwidth to burn, but we don't; I'll probably do the multiple-screenie thing with a link to imageshack.us or sommat.

Guess it's time for my annual appeal to get navigation upgrades for the map vault.

Completed maps are now up to 44 pages but can only be paged through, one page at a time.

I suggest adding a Google style navigation to the map vault:

<< 1 2 3 4 5 6 >>

or similar. If that's done, please make it applicable following a sort, also.

Alternately, an index without thumbnails. I was browsing for HL2 maps only a while ago and, good heavens, the completed vault is very difficult to search through. I sorted on mod type and it took forever (seemingly) to wade through page after page to get to what I wanted to look at.

In any case, the map vault navigation needs enhancement.
