We've had quite a few discussions about hardware cooling at TWHL, but none of them addressed specifically about the mechanism of CPU cooling. I want to take a little survey on everyone's CPU temp. I just replaced my old cooling fan with this one. I got this heat sink two years ago from my brother-in-law. He just gave it to me in brand new condition. It's so much quieter than the old one I had.
I'll start the survey with my ancient machine:
Athlon XP 3200+
Stock thermal paste (silicon-based)
Idle CPU temp: 50 C
Load CPU temp*: 57 C
Average RPM: 2200
*The CPU load condition was simulated after playing Half-Life 2 for 30 minutes. The temperature recorded was from the ASUS mobo sensor.
How hot are you?
