Is there a way to open an existing map into hammer and edit it there? If so can you please tell me.
Thanks,
Raz0r

P.S.: If this is a noob question sorry, I am a noob to this stuff.

HL1 or Source?

If it's for Source, you need a .BSP decompiler. I'm sorry, but I have no experience with those so someone else will have to tell you how to use them :D . Additionally, a decompiled map can not be recompiled because it messes up the brushes.

Most people decompile maps to see how they are set up, etc.

You'll probably bet a quicker/more thurough response if you post in the Source/HL1 forums; but because this thread already exists, there's no need to make a 2nd one.

Hope that helps :D .

There are Decompilers for half-life 1 too, the one considered "the best" is called BSPTwoMap - but decompilers do not produce usable results. A decompiled .map will have lots of errors and won't be re-compilable.

So, you mean if I open the bsp edit it and then try to complie it, it won't work?

exactly. Decompiling is only meant for learning.

Well if you're looking into remaking maps (complete waste of time and skills, if you ask me) - you can remake every brush in that map (make a new brush, over the decompiled one and remove the old one).
That's, how remakes 're made and trust me - you don't want to waste your time on crap like that.

Original maps (no matter, how crappy they might be) are always considered better, than remakes (unless you ask some complete csgeeks.. ;) ).
