Hi,
ive googled myself to dead. :zonked: How can i put custom models into the hammer editor? Im mapping with 1.6, and ive tried the cycler_sprite thingy, but i cant choose .mdl files. Just .spr.
What the heck is going on? :nervous:

Im quite new to this stuff, and i would really appreciate if somebody would help me out. :)
Thx for reading.

You have three possibilities:

1. The cycler entity. The cycler_sprite is for sprites (.spr) only, as you can obviously see. The cycler entity is best used for props. Its solid.

2. The monster_generic entity. Usually used for custom npc's. It bleeds when you shoot it, and it gibs when exploded.

3. The monster_furniture. Can also be used for monsters and props, but is non solid, meaning you can walk though it.

Its up to you yo decide wich one suits your needs, it all depends on what kind of model you want to put in your map.

uuh, but what if i just want a chair? Or somewhat. And its mdl format. What do i have to do then? It has to be solid, but it would be stupid if it would bleed.
Plus: I dont have monster_generic etc, since its a Counterstrike map. Or is sumthin wrong?

So you want to put a chair model in your map? Then i would use a cycler entity, it automatically makes models solid. Just place your chair model in cstrike/models and enter "models/chair_filename.mdl" (no quote) in the model property of the cycler entity properties.

i just can choose cycler sprite, and no "cycler". was it a misunderstanding, or what?
When i use the class menu from the entity tehres only cycler_sprite.oO

You may want to look for a advanced CS FGD file, i believe that one has more usefull entities than the default one. Not sure though.
Otherwise i don't know.

are you using hammer 3.5? A buddy of mine was using hammer 3.4 and he coulndt add models either. After he updated to 3.5, he had no problems.

Lol, you're probably talking about having models visisble in the editor, instead of those colored boxes. This has no effect on the map.

Cycler_sprites can be used for models. Yes, it says .spr, but enter the model path and it'll work. Cyclers are not solid, by the way.

For the record, monster_furniture and monster_generic don't work in CS.

Ive got it to work with the gimli custom fgd file. But only with the normal models, for example hostage or chicken.mdl. Ive tried some other .mdls found on the net, but they wont show up.

Could somebody give me a hint were to find models, compatible to the Hammereditor, and cs 1.6?

I was reffering to eightballrota's post, Johnnsen.

To quote, use this tag: [ quote ] [/ quote ] (without the spaces).

Ok, so the tag is like everywere else, just not integrated to the gui. Anyway, does somebody know were to find compatible models?

To have models show up in Hammer, put them in the 'models' folder in your Hammer directory.

I want them, not just to show up in hammer. They should at least show up in the game.

I tried that once and hammer just crashed! Later I used a regular cycler. :

What's all this crap about cycler entities and them being solid an stuff? They might be solid, but it's not precise, not like you would get with a good clip brush built around it. All you would get otherwise is a box around the general area of the model.

Just use a monster_generic, type in the path for the model (don't browse), check the "not solid" flag, and build some clip brushes around its shape. It's that easy.

P.S.
Cycler_sprite has aways crashed Hammer for me when I use it for models, just like Elon said. Not sure why, but it does it right after you close the properties box after typing in the model path.
