Apparently it was an old demo version of Half-life, does anyone have any info on it,
I mean - was it beta models etc? if so then can I please get a download?! :D

Quoted from Wiki:
Half Life: Day One was designed exclusively for OEM partnerships and was never available to the general public. Half-Life's actual demo (available free to the general public), Half-Life: Uplink, was released several months after Half Life: Day One.
Buuut.. I've managed to find a download of it in some russian site.
Clicky!
Pretty interesting.. I'm downloading this myself. :)

Probably just old beta levels. It may not even run.
Still, pretty darn neat, Daub, i was also looking for this old HL demo thing.

Something else: Quiver reference!

Loads more interesting stuff here: look in the media folder.

Basically animations of them standing there, rotating.

EVEN MORE INTERSTING STUFF!

Does the present half-life have "Profiles?" Im not really sure.

Anything different from the real version?
Yes. Remember the first grunt you met, the dead one with the MP5. In the room with the two senetry and crabs that teleport in. In day one he is a barney. :P

OMG BIG DIFFERENCES
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!

Just before barney lets you in to c1a0, the little balcony things at the sidesare different. The textures were pretty dodgy in c0a0 for me...

Oh yeah - did anyone elses view models turn into holograms?

This is pretty cool, ultra old school goodness.

Played through anomalous materials & unforseen consequences and it really has lots of differences, mostly minor stuff, but still clearly noticeable.

Entities, especially brush based ones were displayed brighter. Same goes to NPCs.

The NPCs in this pic are a bit brighter, than usual.
http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/2452/dayone3im1.jpg
The door here is also brighter.
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/3546/dayone2ih4.jpg

The barney, who says "You've got the wrong airlock.." in Anomalous Materials is standing at the door in a different pose.

In the lightswitch sequence in anomalous materials (the one where you can turn off the lights in one of the offices) - the black sci, who goes OMG walks to the lightswitch, when you turn the lights off, not runs, like in HL.

In the part of the first map of unforseen consequences, where you have to go through the control room, which has a green laser beam bursting in from the ruined test chamber, destroying the computers and the door - every time the beam hits one of the holes in the computers - an explosion is triggered, not like in HL, where the explosions occur only at the first 3 times.

The grenade bounce sound is just like the satchel one.

You can carry up to 15 grenades, not 10.

The small control panel at the big doors to anomalous materials, right after the tram ride which barney pushes to let you in emits a computer sound. I think that wasn't in HL.

I'm sure there are more throughout the demo. And yes - I am THAT much of a HL geek for noticing small things, like these. ;)

EDIT: Woah! Stumbled across something interesting in the .pak. :o

The model's called mrvalve and it has a few animations. I think it was supposed to be in some old valve intro video..

Yeah I saw that too, I agree that it was probably for some intro video.
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-13 14:48:26 UTC Post #218937
I think that model was used in the lost valve intro map, available here: http://twhl.co.za/mapvault_map.php?id=902

Anyone hear the different holo speach in the hazard course?

She goes on about how you won't really be using the long-jump, since it uses a lot of power. : Is is supposed to have it's own power icon or something? It didn't take any suit power away for me :|
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-13 15:01:22 UTC Post #218941
Guess the longjump was originally supposed to be more of a powerup, not a permanent addon to the suit.

The console doesn't work :x Anyone got it to work?
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 08:10:39 UTC Post #219013
Nope. Perhaps it wasnt coded in yet. Or only partialy.

But meh. This Day One thing is just like the original HL, with only a couple of small differences. I was actually hoping Day One contains stuff like this:

So the developers of sven co-op didn't make that heavy weapons grunt? Anyway I always thought he didn't look too good.
That RPG reminds me of doom 1, where you held the rocket launcher beneath your arm not on your sholder.
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 09:53:01 UTC Post #219018
no the sven-coop HW grunt is different than that, im pretty sure they made it themselves, based on those pics or something. or maybe they just modified the beta one, but i dont think they would.
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 10:01:00 UTC Post #219019
The HWgrunt's uncompiled model was included in the HL SDK, I'm sure SvenCoop got it from there.

anyone know where to get muzzle's half- life
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 10:06:59 UTC Post #219023
That's just the very early HL beta screenshots (when HL was just a Q2 mod). This part of HL was never released and probably never will be.

I think Day One is the earliest piece of HL available for download.

Yup. I've seen, but i lost it. DAMMIT!
Kinda sucks, but does feel like HL.

Isn't it illegal to distribute now or something?
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 14:35:15 UTC Post #219055
Is it just me or did the lighting in the HL betas look a LOT better than what it is now? Shadows aside(which don't look very good anyway), the light fades out properly. Lights in the final release just cut off if they don't bounce of of something, why the hell would they change that :|

PS: That HW grunt has been out in the public forever. The POV team used it too.
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 14:53:32 UTC Post #219060
The second screenshot does look pretty amazing. But it could be a scan of a box or some sorta photo shop job to make it look like that.

Hey, I know!

We should start a petition to get VALVe to release the beta on steam!
I'm sure many Half-life enthusiasts would love to see the previous version of the fanstastic game we know well and love today.

Though perhaps they hated it so much they destroyed every last copy.

Which would be a real shame.
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 18:42:58 UTC Post #219090
I doubt very highly that they kept it, and I'm convinced they would never release it if they did. Certainly not because of some stupid petition (those things never do anything.) Besides, they ditched that version for a reason: It sucked.

The hwgrunt model is actually included in the PAK or GCF file of Half-Life (I forget which one) and I was able to extract it. The model of the grunt is the same as the one used in Sven Co-op, but I'm not sure about the the minigun, because I haven't played Sven in a while. His model was also used in the mod Sweet Half-Life, although the weapon he was carrying had been replaced.
That's just the very early HL beta screenshots (when HL was just a Q2 mod).
Quake 1 mod, actually. ;)
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 20:14:32 UTC Post #219097
I'm sure they'd release it if people were prepared to pay. It would be extra profit at no expense to them :)
Posted 17 years ago2007-04-14 20:53:50 UTC Post #219101
Yeah, I mean, it was in Alpha stage. This was no complete product. The maps may have not even linked together yet, and it likely didn't have any kind of a cohesive story.

You're just dreaming, I can assure you. Valve doesn't do stuff like this, they have very high standards of quality. If this even had the slightest chance of happening, it would have been done long ago, not today, when interest in the first Half-Life games has decreased dramatically. It just wouldn't make sense, but you can keep wishing as long as you want. The fact is, it's never going to happen.
