I have no Idea about coding for half-life, but it is very hard. You need the HAlf-life 1 sdk 2.3 and I reccomened Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition. But its really hard man trust me :)

It's not that hard, if you have some c++ knowledge..

Then why are you giving him advice?

I do not reccomend MSVC '05. It has to be configured to work with the HL SDK, and imho sucks in general.

You should get MSVC++ 6.0, which is what Valve used. It's expensive, but just find a torrent. You'll also need the SDK v2.3, which contains all of the source code from the game. HLCI has lots of tut links.

Direct download ftw: http://www.themightyatom.nl/hldownloads/hl_sdk_v23_source.exe

And C++ is hard, even if you have some knowledge of it, it still is pretty tought to understand.

Why couldn't valve make it in BASIC! ;)
EDIT: Muzzle, the one you're hosting is the source-only one, right?

Yup. The full SDK is pretty large. If you just want to make changes to the code, the source-only SDK is all you need.

C++ is easy, if you take it as a subject at school. ;)

Haha, dude, they don't even sell that anymore. If there's any one thing you SHOULD torrent, it's this. Short of buying it second-hand on eBay or something, there's no way to purchase this legally.

It is hard though...I've programmed in C++ for years, but shudder when I look at the mess inside the SDK...
