Hey guys: just wanted to confirm my involvement in this mod, despite my lack of action so far. I'm still in the stages of updating Half-Life (I formatted a while ago, backed up a bunch of GCFs onto 3 DVDs. One of those DVDs worked: the other partially worked, and the one with the most GCFs on it failed completely), so it'll be a little while until I can get cracking.

I started my map.

Then my new PC decided not to boot.

Then my old PC decided it had to be reactivated.

Then i couldn't activate it and now i can't login.

And now i hate computers.

start saying how you want the player to enter/exit your map, Like I said earlier my design allows for any possibility/contingency. Whatever your twisted little minds can think of I can do.

I dont think so.

Besides you'd have to explain why the player

A) Looses the suit in the first place
and
b) Gets it back upon his return to the hub.

shall it be Weaponstrip on map exit?

I vote no, and to avoid say, the player getting an egon in one level and then completely unbalancing the combat in another that egon/guass/maybe something else is only availible at the hub after X levels have been completed, as a reward but with limited ammo. Maybe have weapons only availible in the hub so no matter what map you start at you ensure a standard outfit. Then all mappers just have to place ammo.

Your thoughts?

In my map, you must lose your weapons at the start, and you will aquire only a few more before the map exit. I think you should always lose weapons when returning to the hub so that the individual mappers can decide what arsenal to give the player during their scenes.

What's the big deal with stripping the weapons, anyway? It's just a collection of maps, nothing has to make sense.

You can always make up some stupid excuse as to why the player loses the weapons. Not exactly a huge difficulty.

Fine, it's a mod containing lots of mini-mods.. with no coherent story. Point is a reason for losing the weapons isn't necessary, but make up a story if you wish.

I'm not even going to attempt to put a date on my section. Currently i have no working computer, whenever it is up and running i still have much to set up. Also, Steam will need to download a month of updates.

Espen180 whats the hurry? Why do you want to finish it so quickly. The mod wont be finished, lets say, untill next year- in the least. Just take a look at all the other mods around.
I don't mean Hostage Situation which took them more then two years,(around the time when I joined) and it was dead many times. The reason why it happens is that nobody concentrates on a single map, they map while mapping the maps for the mod other personal project. This way it takes longer or never gets finished. :tired:

I've finally got my new computer up and running effectively so i've resumed work on my section. Right now i'm trying to perfect the lighting and environmental effects. I'm trying to use Spirit to it's full potential, so expect some particle effects and full use of the skybox. Currently what's done is entirely made from custom textures and sprites.

I may have some screens in the following week or two.. possibly.

Walls need more detail
And fix the lights, it seems like you are using light-spot but those lights dont look like they are on. So place some lights under them with a dark-grey color/brightness so that they can look more realistic. And maybe sprites with glow mode.

It's just for displaying the mod and providing download links. Nobody wants to be linked to some forum thread when they're checking out a new mod. Image is important. Plus, you can't register it with ModDB if you don't have a working site. Not sure if you were planning on doing that or not.

Heh, the way i see it this is just a fun little mod for TWHLers, not some big professional thing. It does have the name TWHL Mix 2, afterall.

TWHL is a pretty well known site, though. Gets plenty of traffic, although it may not house too many professional grade mappers.

Ok, looked at suggestions, improved.

Old: Old Office

New: New Office

Changes:
Added wiring
Added new computer bank, blast damage (there is intended to be a blast decal on the wall behind it, I haven't got it to work yet)
Broke the light, added flicker and sparks
Added fallen chair and tipped cart
Added vent (unseeable from picture angle)

It's improved, but in some ways it's worse off than it was before.

Turn the wires into func_walls. They produce all this horrible lighting the way they are right now (check out the spot on the floor in front of the door.) Also, that broken mainframe is WAY too symmetrical. Looks like you used the arch tool for it. Just cut it up with the clip tool, for the most realistic results.

Oh, and the stairs still need to be improved. There's no way they could hold up the way they are if it was real life. There's literally NOTHING connecting them together.

I was going to post pictures of my map but it seems i'm neeeding a new power supply for my desktop so can't do much untill it arrives :(

Kinrah unless your pressed trying to keep the r_speeds down or that computer in the left of the picture was cut by a laser try makeing it have some layers so the broken edge isn't so flat.

For now i'm just going to make trucks and stuff on my laptop that I can use in other maps.

Well, i'm about 5 to 10% into my first map (wow!). I've planned 2, but a third one might pop up. I've got a lot of the textures made though, and i've been playing with some nifty spirit fire and steam effects that i think look quite cool with custom sprites.

Now that my new computer is FINALLY up and running and i'm getting back into the mapping spirit, i should start getting through this at a steady pace.

Looking nice, though I reckon change the ceiling texture (looks kinda weird being the same as the floor texture imo).
