XP x64 Edition was all-around pretty buggy and unreliable though, wasn't it?

Everything except XP SP2 is all-around pretty buggy and unreliable though, isn't it?

OpenGL is FAR BETTER than D3D. It's more widely supported, and IMO is far easier to work with.

W2K was pretty good, too. I can tell from some of the reviews and from seeing many good things about it in my time.

Is anyone really stupid enough to get Vista just for Halo 2?

Halo 1 on the PC was terrible enough, requiring more computing power than Half-Life 2 and looking worse. Also they let kids with 500+ ping dial-up connections host 30 man games so your game would randomly freeze when it wasn't your turn to receive some bandwidth.

I wasn't saying the RENDERING aspect of D3D didn't have a good linux counterpart...but where's DirectSound, DirectPlay, DirectInput, or DirectShow? They all have to be custom coded, and henceforth until Linux get's "the total package" like windows has. IMO GLUT or anything like that doesn't count, because it's nowhere near up to par.

EDIT: And yes...OpenGL is faster and easier to code...I just like to have all my features from the same library :)

If I ever get vista it'll be to play all the awesome DX10 games coming out. Crysis, anyone?

Get Ubuntu, made is South Africa.
Im probably the only one who knows what Ubuntu means.
:P

Anyway, what is wrong with Microsoft? Besides that is made in America.

Are you kidding me? The second paragraph of Ubuntu's Wikipedia entry talks about what its name means, and it says it right on their site.
Anyway, what is wrong with Microsoft? Besides that is made in America.
Stop being so damn pretentious. Most big name software is developed in America, and Microsoft is a company, not an operating system. What country a particular piece of software originates from has nothing to do with the quality of it.

@Athlete: A little riddle for ya... What's huge, can't code and buys up everything in it's path?

Honestly Windows XP is the biggest pile of crap ever released.
I once installed it on my computer, and it ran soo slow.
Were you by any chance running a 400mhz CPU?

400mhz CPU + XP + 10Gb HDD = 20min startup.

I have to agree that Vista is shit, but I find that XP is alright at the moment for the stuff I do.

WinXP SP2 I have actually found to be MORE stable than Win2K. Something about Win2K just doesn't feel "complete" either. Still both better than Vista or XP pre-SP2 however.

@Ansith: I have a box running with Windows 98 with those specs. I can't even imagine running a new version of windows on it.
