The first major thing you read is the unlockable weapons. This could either ruin the game or make it a hell of a lot better.

I'm still skeptical as I know how much BF2 sucked after everyone gets the best weapon for everything and owns you. We'll see. Hopefully it stays balanced.

The thing I'm now excited for is that mobile point idea they call "Goldrush". Sounds like a cool concept if done properly.

I'm disappointed they aren't releasing The Hunted remake, though. I really wish they would make one with their usual twists on the idea.

Being released, supposedly, in a little over a month from now.

How do you feel about this game changing announcement?

Just saw it. Seemed interesting but I doubt it will be one month judging from Valve time.

Also this seems interesting:

The first is earned by acquiring half of the thirty-five new Medic achievements..
Thirty.. five? :zomg:

Anywho - sounds exciting. If the upgrades are only going to play with the pros/cons of each weapon, while pretty much keeping the current balance intact - I'm all for it.

EDIT: Habboi, those look very interesting. New Demo/Heavy & Spy gear from the looks of em'.

That tranq gun just gave me a potentially cool idea for a spy.

So much can be done for all of the classes the limits are endless. I hope they pick the coolest ones.

possible only slight differences i hope... im not hoping for non-chargeable 1-hit kill, 50 bullet clip, automatic sniper-rifle...

But some new weapons would be cool non-the-less.

The new game mode is showcased in Goldrush - the map that will ship alongside cp_badlands in a little over a month from now. One team must escort a small mining cart through a series of Dustbowl-like map segments.
Oh wow! A mining themed map! Haven't seen that before. Boo.

i think that:
Instead of temporarily buffing people's health to 50% above their normal maximum, it permanently boosts them to double their standard health.
will be changed to have slow/no uber and work like the medic gun now, except with a bigger buffer, so that the medic needs to be constantly charging to get double health.

oh, and
Oh wow! A mining themed map! Haven't seen that before. Boo.
you need to get over it. the entire game is that theme.

No I don't, because it doesn't have to be. It's a very broad art style and yet all they seem to want to do with it is brown industrial/rural/mining maps. Got bored of them in a week.

Habboi: Are you sure those aren't old beta sprites?
You and me both know that Valve tends to leave useless crap behind.
That would also make this make sense:

Did you check file age?

Oh and, as Luke said, this weapon unlock system could either be awesome good or just plain shit.
I hope they use it with causion and think about the balancing system
Well and Granary would both make good ctf maps.
I disagree, the maps are far too large and I am certain that the rumor is false.

I want the tranquilizer gun for the spy. Makes it so much easier to just pow people from far away and then stab them as they can't turn fast enough.

the spy could get poison darts or something.. Gradual decrease of health unless a health pickup or medic boost is gained.. Kinda like being on fire from the pyro, but it doesn't wear off after a while.

CTF for Well would rock, IMO. I doubt they'd be releasing it, though.

I'm disappointed in the releasing of Badlands. They could have chosen such better maps for release.

Rock2, Avanti, Flag Run, The Hunted, etc. Badlands just wasn't that great.

Oh, so now this is a Battlefield game?

Seriously, what's with this... it isn't even original. It's plain stupid, like the gun market thing for CSS- which, might I add, is used by nobody (do they still even support it anymore?) If anything, this will scare away players.

The fact that the are releasing Badlands is great, though. I probably would rather of had Avanti, however. That was such an awesome map, spent many late nights fragging into the morning on that map.

And besides, they could have always released Casbah instead- which was a so-so map. It COULD have much potential, but only if it were extensively redesigned. No ET-Atari long walk from the spawn, thank you. So I'm thankful either way.

Gold Rush sounds like a cool concept, and it sounds like a lot of fun.

I agree with Skeetz for the first, and probably the only, time ever.

I forgot to add CTF Well. That's gonna be cool, I think.

EDIT: Just took a look around the new CTF Well, and I gotta say, looks like it has a lot of potential. Haven't had a chance to play it, though.

But as far as I see, it looks a lot like the old Well. I wish they put the water path to the intel room back, though. That would make the map perfect.

Correction: It's Team Fortress -2-.

Valve can do whatever they want in my books, because they'll always keep it balanced.

Stop whining like little bitches, all of you. Try it before you start going on about something you know nothing about, and how crap you think is.

I'm glad Valve is trying new things to mix up the old Team Fortress formula. If they didn't, it'd be the same damn game, aside from the incredibly awesome graphics.

That'd absolutely ruin the balance that makes TF2 so pwn and fun to play.

Anywho, thoughts on [m]ctf_well[/m]?
I Played it yesterday, really enjoyed it. The intel room being large provides some fun gameplay possibilities and makes it very challenging for one engi alone to protect it, so you'll be forced to collaborate with other engis, which is, imo, very fun. The size of the map alone is refreshing after having played 2fort all the time. Water paths work quite alright, though I think they play too big of a role sometimes and could be cut down in some areas.

Valve removed grenades from all classes except Demoman because of the problems with TFC style gameplay. Too much grenade spam and the like. TF2 is incredibly balanced: everyone finds 1 or 2 classes they really like, it's brilliant.

They could have simply put stricter limits on grenades (1 MIRV, for instance, and only for the Demoman- the Heavy would get none; one gas grenade for the spy), and also changed some grenades, (for instance, let only Scouts have concs, and maybe make some sort of new grenade for the medic, perhaps one that creates a small infection in anybody the blast radius touches, and then when they touch someones else, the infection spreads, and becomes a little stronger each time, but can be cured by a friendly medic.) There were other options besides throwing veterans out the window. Adding the totally same grenade system would ruin the balance, yes, but a revamped one could do the game well.

It could very well add teamwork. Say you have a very heavily defended room, and you can't penetrate it alone, even with your grenade. But, if you get a few of your guys together, you can put together a coordinated assault:

(This entirely hypothetical. There are so many variables to take into consideration that I doubt it would ever go exactly like this. This is just a situation to demonstrate how a revamped grenade system could add to the game.)

When everyone charges in, the heavy could go in front and take some fire so everyone else does their thing. The engy could throw his single EMP in the general direction of a sentry, or group of sentries, to take them out for a second, buying some time. The demo could toss a MIRV into a group of heavies, to hurt them seriously. With the bulk of the defense gone, the attackers can then proceed to put up a good fight.

Of course, the defense could use grenades too. In all the chaos, a medic could toss a previously mentioned "Infection grenade" to seriously hurt the attackers- if he isn't hurt by one of the attackers. Of course, things might get a little spammy if a grenade explodes as soon after it hits the ground as in TFC, so it might be wise to make it take a little longer, so that the attackers can get out of dodge, thus forcing whoever is throwing said grenade, to actually think about where they throw their grenade, instead of a, "throw and forget" situation. They would have to take a longer fuse time into consideration so that they throw where they think the enemy may be- not where they are at that very moment. A grenade indicator like in Call of Duty (yes, I know I said this isn't COD, but a grenade indicator isn't exactly the most realistic thing. Perhaps a "shout warning" key, so that one could warn their team mates of a grenade.)

/end really really long hypothetical situation.

Yea, I'm no professional game designer, and I'm sure there are holes I never thought about or took into consideration, but that's my general idea. A revamped grenade system would make the veterans warm up to the game some more, while still keeping it like TF2 is right now.

I have gotten some serious playtime with TF2 now, and I admit, it is still an enjoyable game- but it just doesn't feel quite like a TF game to me. I still need a little more playtime with FF though. They have been changing stuff a little as well (they removed the medics infection spreading in a patch.) So it's not like it's a carbon copy of TFC, they've changed stuff too...

Posted 16 years ago2008-01-27 15:05:47 UTC Post #244430
He says they should implement and new grenade system with a good balance to incorporate teamworks so as to have a funner more challenging game.

In a nutshell...
Posted 16 years ago2008-01-27 15:57:51 UTC Post #244432
Say you have a very heavily defended room, and you can't penetrate it alone, even with your grenade. But, if you get a few of your guys together, you can put together a coordinated assault:
That's what you should and can do now, without any grenades. Either go as a spy, get a medic to uber you, or kick some ass as demo and eliminate the defenses. That's sort of the backbone of balance between engis and other classes, where it's nearly impossible to penetrate a well-fortified room alone without the help of a medic, clever spying or Demo-work.
Give em' all grenades and the Engineer instantly becomes extremely vulnerable in close/medium range, which is supposed to be the very fort? of his class.

I thought ctf_well was a bit meh, just as I thought.

Too big.
It's not BAD, it's still good, I enjoy playing it, but if I want to play CTF I think I prefer 2forts, and really, I don't like 2forts either.
That roof over the bridge ruined the whole map.
