Idk. My beliefs rest with spike. He might be a future gordon, or a parallel universe gordon.

Its obviously Freeman from the future, the reason why his speech is so fragmented is because it took Gordon that long to figure out how to speak
Posted 16 years ago2008-03-05 16:00:16 UTC Post #247241
Maybe Gman is interested in Freeman because Freeman is more powerful and dangerous than Gman...?

I'd love to hear about a Freeman-Geeman duel. Telekinesis versus Gravity Gun sorta thing. Honestly, if they are going to end it, they will end it huge.

Nah they'll keep him a secret. At least enough for me to still want to play Half Life. Finding out about Gman is mainly the only thing keeping me going :>

Unless whatever is made after Episode 3 isn't Combine themed and totally RADICAL.

But we know for sure Gman isn't a man.

For all we know, he could be behind the whole thing. It may have been him that advised the 105% power level for the test chamber at the beginning anyways for "extra resolution." Plus he is seen arguing with a scientist about something.

A character with character and no history creates threads like this. Valve better do something about it soon.

Ok , I appreciate for your answers .

But this is something really weird. Eli says " Our mutual friend"

And G-man told Alyx to say to his father these words : "Prepare for unforseen consequences " ( I don't really know the words)

Well....after 10 years of more questions than answers , I really believe that even the Valve Team doesn't know who G-Man is . I mean : 10years . Wtf ?!

Well he said you are man, he is not. He most likely being the Gman :> And more than likely Valve have a vague idea of what the Gman is etc but come up with more ideas as they make each new game.

Also, I'm fairly sure Gordon doesn't possess telepathic or psycho-kenetic abilities. Therefore, G-Man is not Gordon.

Oh, and the theory about Freeman being G-Man is ridiculous. There are no valid arguments to back that up either, aside from vague physical differences that are enhanced by swapping body parts in MSPaint. Hell, I could make Alyx look like Gordon if I wanted, just give her glasses and a beard. Not only that, this explanation of his identity strikes me as very very very immature. Not like something Valve would do, something a fan would make up.

Since Breen tells you that your services were open to the highest bidder, it would make sense to me that the G-Man is contracted to manipulate certain individuals for their benefit. After snatching Gordon up, it's understandable that the G-Man views him as a very important asset, being the powerful history-changing individual that he is. In this same way, he seems to be manipulating others as well, which would lead me to believe that Gordon is not singularly important to the G-Man, he's just a very capable person that he's being paid to control.

At the end of Half-Life 2, the G-man seemed very satisfied, as you had completed the mission you had been tasked with. Unfortunately for him, at the start of Episode One, the Vortigaunts rescue you from his clutches. At this point, Gordon is effectively out of his grasp, which was not what was supposed to happen. Somebody wanted you to disappear at that point, but I don't think it was the G-Man. Unlike the Vortigaunts, he doesn't seem to have any personal interest in you. He's just doing what he's told.

Mark Laidlaw knows who he is. I'm willing to bet Gabe Newell and Doug Lombardi do too. The rest of us have to be happy with the title "Misunderstood servant of the people".

"G-Man" isn't trying to hint at Gordon, it's a a reference to the slang used to describe government agents. He's never referred to directly as being called 'G-Man' either. The future-Gordon and God rumours are terrible, too.

All we really know is that there are at least three higher factions competing in the Half-Life universe - The Vortigaunts, The Combine and G-Man's 'employers'.

Yeah, that's another one of the flimsy arguments supporting the "Gordon from the future" theory. G-Man's character was based around the stereotypical emotionless "Men In Black" personality. His name is a direct reference to that, as it was certainly a term used before Half-Life ever started development. I'm guessing the name just stuck, the same way the "Barney" filename did. They just haven't applied it yet.
Also, I'm fairly sure Gordon doesn't possess telepathic or psycho-kenetic abilities. Therefore, G-Man is not Gordon.
I'm generally in agreement with you, but didn't Gordon have to stand with the Vortigaunts to bring Alyx back alive in Episode 2? This suggests some sort of supernatural powers...
Posted 16 years ago2008-03-05 22:31:59 UTC Post #247274
That does deserve some thought but the vortigaunts are aware of the Gman and can overpower him. (Ep1 intro)

In that sense, they would know who he was right? To effectively overcome something requires active knowledge of how it functions.

Maybe the vorts were in league with the G-Man in the same sense that Gordon was?

Ah, now that's something to think about. They were on the same level, or maybe still are, and the vorts took Gman's client or something along those lines.

I just hope it's all addressed eventually.

I believe they mentioned the needed human assistance. And that's why Gordon was included. Something more so maybe transferring matching (human) life force from Gordon to Alyx.

Another theory: G-man is gordons father... gordon remembers him from his childhood and sees him in his dreems, and hes basically like a ghost of the past. :P

Another theory: Alyx is really Gordon's mother, but due to a glitch in time caused by the resonance cascade, she appears to be much younger. Everybody else is involved in a gigantic conspiracy to keep Gordon from the truth. Lamarr was also Gordon's pet dog when he was a child, but for unknown reasons he was brought back to life by Kleiner, and had a new outer skin fitted to him to appear to look like a headcrab. This explains why Lamarr never bites anyone.

My logic is infallible, and I challenge anyone to refute my theories.
