I am starting my first Half-Life one map. I have a box with textures, a player spawn for each death match and single player( I don't know which one to use) and a light_environment right at the middle/top of the box. I run the map and get a black room of what I think is my level in the dark. Does anyone know what my problem(s) could be? here is the console as soon as the map is up.

Did you take a look at the light_environment properties? Try just adding a light entity and see if anything changes.

compile logs are more important than console logs ;p
but yeah add some lights, and use ZHLT if you aren't already.
light_environments only work when there is sky in the level. add a "light" entity.
