hi, i'm sure some of you have heard i was making a mod for hl1 that puts almost everything from hl2 into the goldsource engine.
i got bored and decided to make a map.

i didn't realize i was mapping for my mod, i sorta expected i was mapping for regular hl, but i soon started adding things from hl2 to demonstrate my mod. here are some screeneys:

Use OpenGL rendering, if you can't, buy a new video card before making HL2 brushwork on HL1, because it'll lag, also the map doesn't look good and the mod is pointless.

Your still using illegal models then?

Also, I don't recognise any of those areas from HL2. They are far too blocky and lack details.

Also, again, HL1 cannot handle the open environments of HL2. Whats your plan for when it comes to the "Highway 17" and "Sandtrap" chapters?

Not to mention, if you even want screenshots to show, have SOMETHING to show.
1. Your combine have no death positions.
2. Your environments as Urb pointed out are bland and resemble no HL2 environments.
3. You're wasting your time. If you do even complete it, you'll get an audience of maybe 5-10 people that can't play Half-Life 2 because they're computer sucks or they can't afford it, which is once again illegal since they don't own HL2.

Everything you've shown in this thread could be summed up in 1 screenshot.

You have no skill as a mod leader,
You have no realistic goals,
Your mapping ability is nowhere near good enough to produce anything even resembling HL2.

And instead of ignoring direct question like you did last time you proposed this joke of a mod - try answering some.

It doesn't look good, even in OpenGL, sorry, but you need to improve much more on your mapping skills before you want to make a mod with such purpose, even if its pointless, try doing a simple mappack without any whores, you'll get a much better reception here, bye.

i got banned because i was acting like a 2 yr old, flaming, typing in caps lock, calling people idiots, and creating flamewars. i don't act like that anymore, i've been on several forums now, i know how to behave properly. also, this was the second forum i was ever on, now it's like the... uh... 5th or 7th?

strider, you're a mod, why aren't any of my shouts appearing after i type it in and hit "go"? yes, i did refresh a million times, it still doesn't appear...

well mabye it's the fact that i have to use ninjacloak to actually visit the site, mind removing the ip ban then let me test it? :P

EDIT: i also tested it using ie7 to see if it was firefox causing the problem.

I am also willing to give you a shot at using TWHL properly.

I will say this however. Its great having ambitions and all but some times its just not possible to achieve something. GoldSource cannot handle Sources capabilities unless you really, and I mean really alter the engine and I believe theres a team already doing that.

From the look of your screenshots I would say that you are not ready to make such an ambitious mod. You may be one day when you have aquired the skills neccessary but...well put it this way. I have been mapping for 8 years and I haven't released a single mod.

Of course, you wouldn't recreate HL2 in HL exactly as it is, but you can try to emulate HL2's atmosphere in HL, making HL2-esque levels.

Anyway, if you want this mod to succeed, then you'll have to do some planning. You'll have to decide what to put in and what to leave out. HL2 is a big game, it took a few dozen people multiple years. You'll likely run out of motivation before you're done, unless you set yourself clear, achievable goals. Which likely means, a small mod consisting of a few levels only. You can always add more to it later on.

All the content from that are recreations, though. There's no legal concerns with those.

TBH, the HL2 section was my least favourite part of Reissues. It kinda made HL1 feel even more dated that it already is.

Not that I'm dropping hints or anything :rly:

those people are doing the same thing as me, adding and bending the engine, but they gave up quite a while ago. the name was "beyond half life"

I actually was quite fond of the sandtraps, as annoying as the level was, i believe, if you wanted to make it 'your own' and instead of replacing it, added more walls and blockades to block vision, and some twists and turns, it may actually work.

hmm, that might work... if i knew exactly what you were talking about.

i don't know 100% about what you are saying, but if i keep the sandtrap level, i should add more walls to block vision, thus hiding the simpleness of the map?

okay, thanks for the suggestions, but right now i need to worry about other maps, i'm currently adding "d1_trainstation_02". it runs fine, just need to add some textures to the "halflife2.wad" then i will move onto models, then finally adding the citizens and combine soldiers and such which will be easy.

Seriously, ValvE will rip you to pieces with Copywrite T&C's and such if you rip the models and textures straight from HL2.

Yeah, Captain P is right. While making an exact version of Half-life 2 in Half-life 1 is pretty silly and would be extremely hard and take a very long time, you could possibly create short singleplayer missions with the theme/atmosphere from each chapter, like you could create a few maps with Ravenholm gameplay and the atmosphere from Ravenholm (using the textures, models, sound, monsters) and such. That would be a pretty realistic idea for a HL1 mod while being cool at the same time.

Because making an exact version of Half-life 2 in Half-life 1 is pretty useless and I don't think will appeal to anybody by the time it would be finished.

If I haven't already given it to you, I have code with the required models and sound files to get a poison_zombie and poison_headcrab into Half-life 1. You can hand it to your coder and he can implement them. You could also modify the human grunts to make them look and behave like combine units and most of the other monsters you already have. You would just need to create the fast zombie and ant lions.

As for the screenshots, they need alot of improvement. The brushwork is a decent start, but it still needs to be improved alot more, and I don't really think the Breen Screen will light up that much of the area (does it in Half-life 2?). Try adding some other light sources, it is an outdoor map, a nice subtle orange/yellow light_environment would be a start.
