I gotta a problem, is there any way to speed up the compile process. I'm using what came with worldcraft 2.1, i guess i have to upgrade to Hammer 3.4. but are there any programs to help speed it up or do it instead of worldcraft?

So you use the old compile programs, QRAD, Qblablabla and so.

Get Zoner's Half-Life Tools (ZHLT) here:

No.

Just make sure you got it checked on fast compile and also a lot of people say (i dont really give a fck but) that HLCC is best at compiling as its fast and has lots of compiling options. But I mean, I've used it but it all seems to much of a hassle to me.

HLCC is a Batch Compiler I believe. And no, updating your tools wont speed up compiling times. Buying more RAM might help a bit. I just use ZHLT 2.5.3 (custom build), the good `ol default compile tools. HLCC, like Jahzel said, is way to much of a hassle for me - and using any of ZHLT's GUI compilers is damn near confusing.

im using nems batch compiler. simple and quik. the only bad thing is it uses a .map foile for compiling.
adn LOL you run xp on 48mb ram!!! get 98se on it again becasue xp lows way to much down
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-07 14:01:30 UTC Post #25951
Yes, it is, immediately. Even if you map on the olde one, compile on the damn new one!

but i doesnt work on the new comp, it comes up with an error when i want to compile. And doesnt let me select things in the 3D view.

I wanted to know if these errors were occuring because i was running windows Xp with worldcraft 2.1? I know the RAM's fine, 256mb.

Pepper, you miss understood my question, my old computer in running windows 98 with 48mb RAM, and my new computer is running Xp with 256.

Download the latest ver. of hammer, and Zoner's Half-Life Tools and it should run fine on windows xp.... (well it does for me :-)

oh yer.... forget trying to map on a computer with 48mb ram, use it for a paper weight, or maybe a footrest. :P

ho srry i missunderstood. my old computer has 96mb ram for compiling. although wihtout lights and a simple map took me already 1.30 minutes ot compile . now max 10 secs wiht a light. how 1024mb ram can help you :D

Well now up graded to Hammer 3.4 and its much better than Worldcraft 2.1. It also works on my new computer and now takes only a few minutes to compile, unlike like the old 30 to an hour to compile. I dont miss that.
Thanks to everyone that helped! :D

Should I still be using Worldcraft? because there seems t be much newer versions of Hammer out there. But I dont like Hammer that much.
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-08 09:56:54 UTC Post #26042
Start using Hammer. It IS better than WorldCraft. In fact, it's just a newer version of WorldCraft but it switched name after I guess v3.3
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-08 11:05:12 UTC Post #26048
Worldcraft dude, if you switch to Hammer, will you also change your name to Hammer dude? :D
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-08 11:21:39 UTC Post #26055

NEVA! MUAHAHAHAHAHH! besides, I have hammer, and its too diffeent from Worldcraft for me to switch. I guess I'll just be the Old Skool mapper from now on. The only guy at TWHL to use WOrldcraft AND Q tools throughout his entire mapping career!

WorldcraftDude - Hammer is the same freaking thing :P There really is no difference between them other than people say "Hammer runs better " or something like that which I have not expierenced.

WorldCraft Dude, I got to say one thing (aaaaaaaaaagh!) whats the matter with you? You really need to vistit this place if you think that worldcraft is better! hammer is thee one to use as it has many improvments that help alot during mapping etc.

:x

Well theres more stuff to mess with in hammer. And I like the simplicity of Worldcraft. But no I DONT use Windows 95. I got XP

If you're not able to adapt to newer tools, it's gonna be a worse mapping career... HL2's editor will be totally off-world to you...

But if you wish to do so, that's OK by me...

MMMMM WORLDCRAFT DUDE.....

didnt you repair the Fred Flinstone pc...ohhh yea...it was you!...
so....you surely use "coo edit 1", winamp 1 beta, nero 1.2 arent?

uuuuhhh let me see....yeah! you use the f*** old worldcraft too!..
you are a fosil!......

great guy!

Its has a much Better GUI (graphics user interface) also, or so ive found, it also has much better tools such as with applying textures, instead of streching it yourself too make it fit on a door or some thing, you can just use the "fit" button and it does it for you, no more wasted time!! :)

Make the switch! I did and discovered it was well worth it!

Search for a program called "Batch Compiler" - it seems faster even using the Zoner's tools
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-11 07:34:28 UTC Post #26441
sorry if i'm repeating, but i can't be bothered reading all the posts...

es:
That's because you get more feedback form the dos window than the Hammer compile window ;)

And Batch Compiler isn't a Compiler - its a front end

Its a better option because you can use -estimate, very handy switch

And there is NO speed reduction
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-11 11:45:25 UTC Post #26512
I think what esmajor meant is that maps compile quicker through batch compilers than in Hammer. This is obviously true (as long as you don't leave Hammer open unnecessarily) as it will free up a fair amount of system resources.
