I don't get it, of what I have been hearing on some gaming news sites is that the PS3 is been making a stronger comeback in sales recently against the Xbox360, and that 2009 is starting to look like Sony's year with their "better(?)" line up of upcoming games. Hell, they even just about finished rolling out their long awaited "Home" network world wide. So what gives?

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about Sony, I am happy with my PC and Xbox360, but to be fair, I still have my PS2 hooked up to my spare TV.

Sony failed the console race this year. There is absolutely no way they can reclaim the victories they had with PS/PS2. It's the console rule: nobody can win the race more than twice consecutively.

I think the one company that ever had three #1 consoles (but not consecutively) has to be Nintendo. The first two: NES & SNES. Then there's the Wii, need we say more? Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong here.........

well the rule is consecutively, so the gap between SNES and Wii means that Nintendo doesn't break the rule.

I don't find this article suprising. They did badly on their first year (with outrageous pricing) and I'm not surprised this year that they aren't pushing many units off the shelves.

I would suspect that the gaming websites in question may have biased figures, or inaccurate ones. Proper media networks usually do their homework when it comes to the business world.

Ah well. Better luck next time Sony.

can we be surprised?

The 2 titles that were supposedly going to save the PS3 were MGS4 - a franchise which never recaptured the magic of MGS1 in any of the following games, and which ends with a cutscene that rivals Titanic in runtime - and LittleBigPlanet which is intruiging, but just doesn't interest the harder gamers.

Well i don't think the Wii is winning this console 'war' I actually think the 360 is in the lead as of now. Don't get me wrong, i love the wii, but i just think a lot of the games don't have good wi-mote controls.

Except shooters, and Wii-only games.
Plus, this generation as well as the last, Nintendo has been attracting the younger crowd. A good percentage of the titles don't interest me in the slightest.

Ps3 def took too long to release their ps-network or whatever. I bet that hurt them as well.

Wow. I knew the Wii was dominating, but I didn't think by that much. They've shipped about 50% more then the competition.

The Beta for Playstation home is now available to everyone, and now you know what I know: this is what happens when your marketing department tries to make a game. Here is everything you need to understand about Home, if you should accidentally launch it from your XMB: press and hold the Playstation button in the center of your Dual-Shock or Sixaxis controller. From the menu that appears, select Quit.

There are things about Home that are simply beyond my understanding. Chief among these bizarre maneuvers is the idea that, when manufacturing their flimsy dystopia, they actually ported the pernicious notion of scarcity from our world into their digital one. This is like having the ability to shape being from non-being at the subatomic level, and the first thing you decide to make is AIDS.

If you approach an arcade machine and there is a person standing in front of it, you will not be able to play it. Likewise, if you see people bowling and think that bowling is something you might like to do, you probably wont be able to. Unable to play arcade games like Ice Breakers and Carriage Return the first several times we logged on, these games had begun to take on an epic stature in our minds. These were gushing fonts of liquid fun, habit-forming and dangerous - for the good of our virtual society, the supply had to be controlled. When we were finally able to play them, we learned that they were the equivalent of browser games.

There is nothing about the experience of using Home to suggest that you are actually moving through a single, contiguous environment. It is very clearly a handful of walled off zones, where you are confronted by incessant load screens in a desperate search for stimulation. From the moment you enter one of their ultrahygenic "amusement regions," it's clear that all life has been burned away. You get the sense that this is a place in which no interesting thing could ever happen.

There is already a growing school of Home apologetics, fostered by the same Order of Perpetual Masochism that lauded the rumble-free Sixaxis at launch and suggested, hilariously, that Lair and Heavenly Sword were videogames. They're under the impression that because something is free, this places it on some golden dais beyond censure. It's no virtue to give away something that no-one in their right mind would buy. Sony has no idea what this world is for, and that ambiguity infuses every simulated millimeter of it.

This is the terrible secret that roils beneath their false universe: it is nothing more than a cumbersome menu, a rampart over which you must hoist yourself to accomplish the most basic tasks.

This is the reason why the Wii has been selling like hot cakes.

Blu-ray done soon?.....I don't know.........it seems too soon.

That's nothing new. Many retailers are dropping bluray completely simply because it doesn't generate enough profit, which in turn leads to people being unable to buy it should they want one, which leads to more retailers dropping it etc.

I don't see the blueray format being around much longer. Once the downfall has begun, it's hard to get back, and besides, most people (me included) are content with watching regular DVD quality anyway.

Never understood the point of Bluray myself. Why pay more money for slightly better quality?

I think I'll keep my ?3 and watch regular DVD's on my cheaper console.
