Possibly one of the most powerful and popular game engines has been released to the public free. The UDK (Unreal Developer Kit) allows people to use the awesome Unreal Engine that powered some of the best titles out, including the recently released Batman - Arkham Asylum.

Already downloading. This one looks like a winner.

Looks like it'll be pretty extensible even without source code access, judging by the demos.

I can't download it, but if I could I might fool around with it as a way of inducing nostolgia. My first 3D maps were for Unreal Tournement 2004, none of them were released, they were boring, ect. Also, I was a noob then.

I moved to Hammer for SP mapping, but if this SDK comes with NPCs, I might consider downloading it when I have more bandwith to do so with.

I don't doubt that many gaming mags that come out next month would have this in their disk, Jeff.

Well I'm rather pissed off. I clicked the link to download the UDK about ten hours ago, and when there was only a minute left of the download, my internet cut out for no reason.

No Jeff, just go down to a few different newsagents and check out what they have in-stock. If not, find an issue online that would have it and ask them to order it.
