Since I play predominantly online, I use Steam.

Also, WON is vastly outdated, and there is absolutely no reason to not use Steam regardless of how much you love WON.

Not really,

I'm starting to get into WON2. I just like the store-bought Half-Life better.

You know you can activate a retail game on Steam. If you like having the physical disk, it's not stopping you from using Steam.

WON 2 is also very small, supports only a handful of games, and is arguably illegitimate.

I know I can register it.

I don't need to though. I have the Steam version and the Store-bought.

I just prefer the Store-bought and I like WON2 more. Believe me, I still play the Steam version too, for the graphics upgrade. It isn't as pixely as the store-bought one.

Pixely? Are you using software rendering?

I have WON and steam, but I map and develop on WON-HL. Less crap to deal with, faster loading times and probably easier to setup with.

I play Steam Half-Life but I have WON Half-Life so I can run beta versions of Counter-Strike. 1.6 sucks.

LOL Joe, the graphics are exactly the same, just so you know. I can't believe you never changed your graphics settings at all.

I used to develop on WON HL, but it got tiresome having to transfer files between that and the Steam folders for whatever reason, so I just went over to Steam exclusively. Besides, I never used to map anything multiplayer except for CS, so online stuff didn't matter to me. WON HL is so much lighter and faster than the Steam version, the map would take literally 2 seconds to launch after compiling was finished.

Woops, I guess I am a little stupid for not checking that out.

Using steam HL, since I bought it a month or so ago when it was just 2 euros.

I still use WON HL. Haven't been online with steam to validate the GCF, so I can't play steam HL yet. :P

Oh well, I bought steam HL because it has more online users. But, WON2 has most of my friends still there.

I still use WON Half-Life for testing purposes (my own maps and mods) and Steam HL for online play.

As far as gameplay and graphics go between the two versions, there's no difference, except that Steam HL and its mods support detail textures.

Steam Half-Life + HL Launch Pad

Hard to beat when it comes to speed.
