So it's like April 16th.Getting close enough to the mid of the year.I was just thinking about stuff, about expectations.
My thoughts were directed toward hl2 episode 3,how it's been so long and no news about it.Then my thought went to a mod, about which many expected it as a xmas gift, but but it's been 4 months since then.I'm talking about Black Mesa Source.
So this idea struck me.Valve is a very smart company->Valve has a lot of money->Valve knows where to invest it->Valve knows good opportunities when sees them,so I'm thinking, what if Valve secretly bought the black mesa source dev team, and the mod,and wants to release it packed with hl2 episode 3 for a nice price.
I know it doesn't make a lot of sense,but maybe it's possible.After all everything has a price.
Tell me what you think.

It's plausible. Hey, Garry's Mod was free until version 10, too!

It's not so far-fetched, but...
The Black Mesa team has said time and time again that they aren't selling the game to Valve. There's been a handful of interviews between them and Valve in the past, we well.

I'd be perfectly willing to pay for it, but I wouldn't count on it with the team being to vehement about BM being a free mod. It's possible, I suppose, but the team would have to have been outright lying for some time.

Though i would like to see Valve add Black Mesa to their list of free mods, like they did with Synergy, Dystopia, Smashball, Fortress Forever and the like. That way players can easily download the mod through Steam and not waste time searching for high speed third party hosts. Plus, we don't have to worry about mod updates, as the Steam takes care of that.

Heh, this kind of post on the BMS forums would get you an ear-bashing and a warning / temp ban. :P

Valve have shown a great interest in BMS but they would not have hired team, at least not yet. The mod has not been released and only a very select few have even played any of it. Valve would most likely see how reception of the mod pans out before putting their hands in their wallets.

I do think that the guys developing BMS have got a bright future ahead of them as they are an extremely talented bunch. As for the delays, do not forget that this is a mod that is developed by a team of people who are spread across the globe and can only really work on the mod in their free time. That's not a large amount of time to begin with, not to mention how free time needs to be cherished and planned out for other activities such as family and social events.

They've (the BM team) stated that they will not sell it, but they have also said that Valve has expressed interest in getting an advance copy etc.
Maybe Valve can beta test once the content is finalized, and then the mod can be distributed from the site and steam simultaneously. And then the devs can work on DM.
everything has a price.
Except on the internet, which isn't a commercial venture.

The delay hit a lot of people hard, but every blockbuster game has been delayed at least once, and if missing the initial date means quality, so be it.
Maybe I didn't take it too hard because I would personally have to wait either way, but... It's no big deal, and any veteran BM forum member would agree.

To think that Valve would want to buy Black Mesa and charge money for it is stupid. It would be an extremely unpopular move and would cause much dislike. They're probably smarter than that...

So the BM team will... go bankrupt?
Posted 14 years ago2010-04-16 18:07:49 UTC Post #280563
Isn't the team composed of volunteers to begin with?

How can a team without any budget go bankrupt?

not to burst anyones hopes, but BMS isnt all that good.

They do however, have a great marketing department.

When was the last release date? Or was there even one? Was it just us expecting it to be released by Christmas?

The official 2008 trailer had "2009" at the end so people were expecting it to be release on Dec 31st at the latest.

The team claimed that they didn't announce the fact they would not meet this date until last minute (December) because they were confident that they would be finished, though how nearly 5 months has now passed is beyond me. :|

Don't you see? It's the biggest gaming prank of all time! Every video you've seen, every screenshot you've seen, every model you've seen, they were all specially crafted to fool you into thinking there would actually be a cool new mod out there. Just think: What have you actually seen of it?
