I've updated nothing, rebooted a couple times, tried making new or edit old maps all come to the same odd glitch. I cant see anything in the top/right/front windows except the odd model which only became visible by toggling show models in 2D. Only think I've not tried yet is deleting SDK and redownloading it. Anyone have previous experiences with such behaviour?

Screeny:

Edit:
The black grid under the tree is me selecting the group of objects, used to colour is as red instead of grid it black.

Edit:
Never mind, its fixed now. SDK did an update patch or something this morning and all objects are visible again.

Yeah my HAMMER is really weird too... In the 3-D window, sometimes when im flying around all my models turn white. And when they do, everything in the 2-D views becomes unresponsive. The grid disappears, i can still move and select things, but i have no idea what im doing because every visual cue is GONE!!

But if i move the 3-D view back to an angle where everything is rendered properly, then everything is fine.... Not totally debilitating but EXTREMELY frustrating to work with and very annoying..

And what's with this Manifest thing?

Well seeing as how i cant edit my first post due to the double post [accident] i might as well add to this.

I've rebooted 3x, and the problem only seems to be with the orange box episode 2 editor. The editor for regular hl2 is fine, but who wants to map for a dated source engine build, seriously...

Ugh it just pisses me right the fuck off when i ACTUALLY wanted to map, and had shit to do, and valve updates everything and screws it all up.

Even when i tried making a new map, there was zero grid, and the only way i could make objects was by using the 3-d view... which isnt practical at all.

On another note - Mapping for hl2 - None of the item_*** or weapon_**** or ammo_*** entities are showing up...
Therefore i cannot place a suit, any ammo or weapons...

I can by placing an entity and naming it what i want - then i get that odd looking "obsolete - thumbs-up" dude. It appears in game however..

Ugh FML i quit.

Create a shortcut to Hammer and add -dxlevel 80 to the target path. Solved the glitchy views for me, but it still crashes often.

If it doesn't really help, the only thing we can really do is wait for Valve to fix it, that's never happened before!

Hammer will go bad on you unless your mapping for L4D2 or TF2, or at least thats whats going on with mine. Doesn't work with EP2 >_>

Fix - old SDK binaries

Here you go, be sure to read the README file - and turn off auto updates.

Yeah, just use the old binaries until they fix the update.

Uhm, by any chance are you using a batch compiler or the compilator? Are your compile tools up to date?

No i probably should use the compilator tho. Im just so sick and tired of having nothing go smoothly.
Expecially stuff that used to work fine is now not working at all.

I do not recommend the Compilator for Source at this moment, it doesn't work very well with OrangeBox engine maps (missing materials and vbsp crash).

I would do mine at school but my teacher is that picky - that he has banned youtube because it takes up to much bandwdith. -_-

Compiling and using up all the CPU; he would flip.

I have the same problem when I start Hammer for Ep2-based stuff. Ep1 works just fine, though. Any word from Valve about this yet?

ep-1 works fine for me as well but wont compile. i cant find any solutions on the steam forums either.

I can't find any solutions either. Seems downloading the old binarys or using -dxlevel 80 are the only ones up to yet.

Heres the only Steampowered results (using EP2, Hammer, Broken as keywords):

And found a tread on Interlopers:

Compiling for Ep1 and HL2 works fine for me. But if I try to load Hammer to work with CS:S it's just completely unresponsive. Unless you click the X in the upper-right corner. Didn't test with HL2DM cause I don't have it installed, though.

Have Valve not fixed it yet? :\ They know about this problem...
