Military Bunker W.I.P.

I've posted a map a few pages ago, called "Military Storage Facility",
this is a improved version, with new architeture, new rooms, etc.
The purpose of this map is to look like Quake, or Doom.

I'm planning on secret areas, push a button to end the level, etc. all that old-school stuff.

I like having an expanded dev palette too. If you can't make your own - there's a million places to download more.

Nice Strider looks pretty cool even with my screen brightness turned all the way down (ma batteries are dyin)!

)

Ninja Defuse: looks pretty cool are those brick structures old-style ammo dumps?

Skedar: looks neat from what i can see tho your screens are a little too dark for my current brightness setting... = )

Hey guys, could the work I've done in Solid Works be implemented into the source engine?
Posted 14 years ago2010-05-10 06:54:06 UTC Post #281130
Depends on what formats you can save it as- it has to be a format readable by something with a source smd exporter. (ie. XSI mod tool)

Sexy work, dude.

My only recommendations would include upping the number of polygons used in the wheels so the edges aren't as visible, and defining some more hard edges along the body, like in the grill and bumper areas, so that it isn't quite as amorphous looking. It's pretty amazing what results you can get with just a handful of polygons, especially if hard edges are involved (no smoothing necessary!).

Keep posting more! I need to get back in the habit of modeling; blasted university studies are getting in the way.

I want it. But with seats please
Posted 14 years ago2010-05-11 07:03:56 UTC Post #281152
It'll be most likely tinted windows, so you won't be able to see if there are seats inside.
Looks good man.

thanks for all the comments, yeah, the windows will be well tinted :P

And yeah Splint I'm not going to worry about the edges until its fully textured, then I'll see how it looks, then tweek it more for the final render..

Edit;

There got it all finished and UV Mapped.. Now the fun part; TEXTURING! (Seriously, texturing is the funnest part.)

Fair enough. Looks great thus far; I've always been a lousy texture artist (I always just leave my models that flat grey - yuck), so I'd be interested in seeing what you could accomplish in that regard.

Wow imageshack degrades the image so much!
Anyways Its just about textured, I got the basic ones on now, just need to work on shadows and what not..

Posted 14 years ago2010-05-12 20:15:53 UTC Post #281183
haha ya I was going to but some handles but then I decided to put shaved handles if thats what there called.. you just tap the door and it opens.. yeah

oh and Captain terror I just used the uv mapping in maya, takes a bit to get used to but its alright

Edit;

There finished, makes a good portfolio piece I think.

http://www.mikeverret.ca/test.html like bfore wasd to walk, mouse to look around.. with it I noticed that the back seems to be having some smoothing issues... bah.

but, I'm changing the name from test.html to bmw.html but server usually updates itself in like 2, to 9 hrs, yeah I know bullshit, eh?

So yeah if test.html dont work, try bmw.html

so I just fixed it and it is bmw.html, not test.html

He used point_spotlight instead of light_spot- it creates a spotlight effect instead of light.
And I just remembered the graffiti that I was going to do for you.
Oh yeah, I haven't uploaded mine yet. Must remember to scan that tonight.

Use the point_spotlight for the glow, but disable the dynamic light in the flags and use a light_spot to actually light the world.

It's prettier, and there's no point and adding unnecessary slowdown (those dynamic lights are ridiculously taxing for how shitty they look).

Nice. Zeeba, that is looking much better. You going to use models as foilage or transparent 1 unit brushes?

Posted 14 years ago2010-05-22 20:27:46 UTC Post #281408
Thanks, yea its coming together pretty smoothly. Im using models as foliage and some func_illusionaries. My only obstacle will be to find out how to make them illusionary because when you shoot them they bleed black stuff. Hmm actually I haven't experimented with counterstrike vs half life making them monster_generic. Someone has also mentioned making the map compile cyclers to become sprites. I'll have to see who did it and ask how.

Edit: Wow, you can make sprites a model in counterstrike cz. Awesome!!!!!, couldn't do it in hl.

Thanks a lot and nope. I don't really care to wait for such long compiles with source. And I like to compile a lot to test scale and everything. I really see making maps as architectural exercises so great graphics don't matter to me too much.

Good to see your starting up with source yourself. Guess you have a little more patience than me. :plastered:

What size is the texture map? Looks like you could squeeze it into a rectangular map (512x1024, 1024x2048) instead of a square one to conserve texture memory, especially because it has several material layers.

Could you post a rendering of the high-poly version of the egg (if you used one to bake the normal map; it looks like it to me, at least)? Creating the little surface detail bits on high-poly models, like the little veins running through the egg, has always been difficult for me.

Some of you know from my shouts that I somewhat began to learn modelling(though it's kinda boring). I started, after a lot of tutorials(and most of them didn't caught roots in my mind...), to model something simple(I also modelled a bullet, but that was done step-by-step after a tutorial...so that doesn't count):
