I hate you kol, lol

By the way, When compiling my whole computer freezes, i've waited for ages but nothing happens. I go into the task manager and it says "Hammer not responding". Its done this a number of times now, can someone offer assistance.

Be patient?

Compiles can take a long time. Most one of mine's ever taken was around 4hrs on a 1.9GHz PC with 256MB of RAM. That was Cause of Death, my competition map.

Send me the RMF and any other files like wads etc and I will compile it 4 ya! Shuld take 5 minutes on my 4GhZ beast with 2gb of ram </pimp>
m0p m0pIllogical.

well heres the thing, i compiled and it took 7 mins, i then added one door and fixed up the texture on a few walls and compiled again and this time it just never ended 30 mins pass and i got fed up with it. Do you have to keep deleting the bsp in the valve/maps folder? or is it just my computer being a bastard, BTW, im running a 2.67 GhZ processor with a 256 memory stick, so i dont think speed should be a problem.

You don't have to delete the previous .bsp. When your map compiles without problems, the old .bsp is overridden.

As for the longer compile, I sense some... unfamiliarity with the way VIS and RAD work, thus a probably not-so-optimized level... maybe?

Maybe post it in the Problems section of the Vault so we can take a look for ourselves?

Hopefully ill get round to doing that.

I know last time i posted it the poly level was though the roof! Way past the suggested 800 mark. I can't get it down for some reason, maybe its because i dont want to put my textures up to scale 10. I really dont get the whole r-speeds thing.

Maybe because you don't really know how VIS works?

Scaling textures only reduces r_speeds in some situations. All faces are split up after 240 pixels. So, when the texture on a face gets scaled, you get less upsplitting. However, on surfaces smaller than 240 units it doesn't reduce any polygons.
