Is it possible to make reflective glass? I've got Spirit if it's necessary. It doesn't actually need to be reflective, it just needs to be transparent on one side and opaque on the other.

You mean you want to make a one-way pane of glass, one side transparent and one side not? I can show you how if that's what you mean.

yeah how do u do a shiny reflective texture? i noticed in one of the specialists mod map the texture was shiny, as if it was reflecting the light. Anyone else seen it, have a look at the tm_corporate map and look for one of the big N logos in the map, on one side of the logo you will see NASH CORP writing on it and it will look reflective when you move around.

I didnt think that the halflife engine could draw shiny textures?

Same as the car in 3DMike's ts_bikini. Anyway, look in the Example Maps section, there's another of mine (lol, well, it was my idea), showing one-way glass.

to make an object "reflect" you simply copy all the "I wear ladies pink undies on my head and stick pencils up my nose" in front of the reflective surface, paste it and rotate it 180 degrees, line it up behind the reflective surface, and make the reflective surface a func_wall with fx amount about 150+/-

so HL cant do reflections then? IE reflect the player in a mirror or something like that??
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-07 01:13:44 UTC Post #48625
it absolutely can't
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-07 14:50:04 UTC Post #48775
YES IT CAN ! ! ! did someone erase my post or something WTF ! how gay Ill prove that it can next time I get my comp back from being upgraded.

...paste it and rotate it 180 degrees,...
I'd suggest to flip it, since you want a mirror.
Most of the reflections you see in HL are fakes. But Half-Life can use al the modern techniques that you see in current games, all it takes is coding.

Gone Latin is waiting for zeeba-Gs proof...... :D

Not only to mock him, but it would be cool if HL could do it (well), and with minimal amount of coding

HL is not capable of proper reflections.

all of the above are possable... the flip trick is crap. forget about it, as for dynamicly rendered mirrors yes it is possable but its very slow and very difficult to set up.

shiny glass is very easy to do... i dont mean relfective glass i mean "shiny" the best and easist way is to use a shiny single polygon made in milkshape with a crome effect on it. Mannon C. Martin made a good one... its called MCM_Polygon... look for it. if you cant find it i think i have it some were, just add me to messenger and ill send it you.

Gone latin you just wate ima get my comp with worldcraft back from being updated on monday and ima proly make a mod and ill put it in there!...noob... If I make the room dark and the glass hardly see through itl work with such an efect that it will look real. and the room will have to be small in order to make it not look fake. But thats not all there is to it, it doesnt include coding but it does include a custom texture!!! :P

Actualy reflections can be done with spirit.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-08 02:22:21 UTC Post #48921
and the glass hardly see through
Then it's not a mirror!

i dont need spirit, JUST a func_train, some triggers, and a custom texture ! jeez its so simple but the effect im sure will look very very real.

Seventh no ones talking about mirros .... there talking about shiny reflections not mirror reflections.

Actually, we've been discussing both at different points.

I look forward to zeeba-G's demonstration.

thanks, tomorrow ima get my comp back and make my first mod and learn to compile maps. I could just tell yall how but than someone else might do it before me. In the mod ill do it somewhere. ALl i can say is that there are LOTS of limitations like ill have to make the mirror as wide as the player and no wider, and the room will have to be very dark. Oh well yall just wate lol.
