Hi,

I have been working through the "In the Beginning" tutorials and everything has worked fine until the last one (Part 6). I can only get a small number of the entities to compile, monster_barney_dead and Xen_tree for example, but most of them wont appear?

Any help would be appreciated.

make sure you haven't got "Hide items" checked

Monster_Barney wont appear. Although when I run the compile in "expert" mode I can hear his voice but he is invisible? (I have only used "normal" compile so far because I haven't worked out how to make weapons/health etc visible in expert mode?)

Are you running CS? If so, monsters dont show up in cs.

Actually in expert compile I can get a xen tree to kill the invisible Barney, then pick up his gun shoot the tree and see it cough up his bones lol! Obviously the tree can see him but he is not visible to the human eye!

Seriously though I am stuck at this point if I cannot get most of the entities to compile.

Xen tree? Sounds more like a barnacle to me... :)

The entities are there. The model however doesn't show up for some reason. Maybe you messed with it's Render FX?

Give us the setup of this barney, e.g. it's properties. That might clear things up.

I can now get all the entities to compile visibly in expert mode. (Don't know why it started to work, I didn't change any settings, they are all at the default recommended in the setup guide?). But in normal mode I can still only get a few of them to compile. I guess there must be a conflict in my compiler setup somewhere?

(The barney is just the class: monster_barney with the attributes at default ie Render FX at "normal" etc)

Also - can anyone tell me if it is normal for the hud - health,ammo etc - not to be visible with expert compile and if so how do you make it visible?

The HUD only shows up after you've picked up the HEV suit. Eey, that's basic HL knowledge man! :P

Well in "normal" compile he must already be wearing the suit then because the hud is there from the start?

Thanks, it's a long time since I played the original game. Must remember to put a suit near the beginning! :cool:
