Map-A-Song MiniContest Rules
1. Build a map for any valve game/engine to a piece of music. Try to make your map reflect the song in anyway you can think of. (this could be a whole functional map, or just a small scene, you decide)
2. Multiple entries are aloud.
3. Judging by community voting.
4. Prize by Prize pool. Current prize kitty: $25. (We will accept donations to the prize kitty in the form of cash/games and mystery gifts)
5. Deadline is when a month has passed and no new entries have been recieved, or, whatever we deem it should be by community voting.

Hopefully we will gain more entrants down the road. Also, there is no minimum entry requirement, i.e., i will pay out the prize(s) even if only one entry is submitted.

Ideally, it would be an instrumental track... This track, for example, always gets my mind racing. I think of a robotic science complex built into a temple ruins or a pyramid.

I believe if everybody maps to a different song the entries will be much more interesting and diverse.

My choice would be to choose from a list of songs previously laid out, but that's just me. We could make suggestion(s) for music to be used in the thread, and from there, we can draw 5-10 songs for the "music pool" for the contest.
OR, we can leave it wide open like Cstriker is saying, and let the author to decide what track or tracks to use. (i can see some interesting ideas here, like mapping an entire album for one, or a playlist of kick-ass songs)

I've got the song Stojke posted on cassette tape. When I was young and heard the song I always thought it says "honey"(obviously didn't know a lot of english then). Innocent past-me.

Music taste is so diverse that limiting the options to a few songs could reduce the number of applicants.

I need restriction in order to finish anything, and it'd be hard to compare a map that's supposed to be a small comedy song and one that's a huge musical roller coaster.

Legitimate Prizes.
Steam games, blu-rays, a random item from the judges basement...
The trophies in the profiles are always nice - it gives you reputation - but having something to actually compete for helps drive competition.
Now just because I can't win anything doesn't mean i don't participate.
My life is so full that i can't sometimes - which sucks - because i mainly map for compos anyway

Besides money and games, i'd like to capitalize on Stojken's idea, i.e., we will be accepting original 2d/3d digital artworks as gifts to add to the prize pool!
Maybe keep these gifts these to yourself until the judging is done, so they will be a suprise to the winner? If you have completed a digital piece of art you plan to donate, feel free to say so in the thread and we'll add it to the prize pool, e.g. Mystery gift #7 by Stojke.

If i chose an train song, it would be something like this:

I always imagine the entire engine of the train working, as well as pantograph thats connected to the power line, and the entire locomotive chassis moving on the rails.
From the point the preparation commands are issued, to rise the pantograph, to lock the doors, to power up the main engine and regulate the compressor. When the kV and A dials light up to indicate the amount of kilo Volts and Ampers available from the power line. To the point where the electro motor starts running.
Fucking love electro-motors.
Interestingly, there are a lot of industrial themed songs that can inspire some one to make some heavy machinery:

SCD Wacky Workbench
S3DB Gene gadget
Ristar Automation
S3DB Boss
Cant remember more, just got up.
