Started construction on a nether rail between my secret base and the iron grinder. Overland Rail to TWHL town is next since I have the framework set up for that, and working in the nether at the height I'm at is an ass. Having this path will hopefully speed up the process a bit as I won't have to go far between the two locations.

You can see my secret tunnel from the nether fortress:

What's an iron grinder, if I may ask?
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-17 01:06:37 UTC Post #319825
Basically It's a floating square that Iron Golems spawn into and fall into lava, they die, and you get 4-5 iron and a poppy or two. They take their sweet ass time though, and the one I built averages about 21 iron an hour. Nice if you just AFK and go watch a movie or something. They only work if someone is actively in/near the chunk that the grinder is in.

It's worked out great for me so far since I'm doing a lot of things at once, I don't have to worry about mining iron for picks/rails. It's automagically there.

EDIT: Decided that a nether rail should take precedent since it'll be shorter and cost less resources. Building a base around the portal, now to figure out how to get the rail from it to the TWHL town portal :/

Only if you all agree to it, I will start a new world when 1.8 is out so we can have instant access to all the new terrain features. It will be a regular sized world, no extra large biomes (yay for you).

But there's no release date set yet for 1.8 so we'll stick to the current world until then.

I've already planned out a lovely new home. Its a tiny version of the one I build on AotBT. I like small footprint houses. They fit anywhere.

Explorer's Journal:

After several weeks (game time) of exploration, I have finally completed my survey of the desert. I raided approximately two dozen burial tombs finding may rare treasure, but my most interesting finds occurred above ground.

During my travels, I came across a botanical marvel:

This rarity is seldom seen by stevekind and is a marvel to behold, but it was the villagers of one small town that gave me my greatest find, thanks to their generosity:

I know, but it was hard to see the 28 on the stack, so after I got back to base, I unloaded the extra stuff and spread them out.

Quick question related to one of my earlier questions about a transit authority. I mentioned having central(in/near TWHL Town) CARTS stations. I'm planning to build on in the nether, but I have to ask would anyone really consider linking up to it? At minimum it would have 5 connections going in and out of one spot, but could easily be expanded with more stations with 5 connections each. I'm just curious if anyone would even use it. I don't even have a place to put it yet, so that's why I'm asking before I start/find a place.

I say just go for it.
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-19 18:44:03 UTC Post #319877
And go for it I did.

I split the process of station/rail building into two phases, Phase I, CARTS station and base rail construction, as well as renovation of the existing tunnel to the surface of the nether from the TWHL Town portal, and Phase II, pretty that shit up. Phase I is about 90% done, just a few more rails to the track and it's ready to go. Phase II is about 20% done, some sections of the rail look nice, but most are just netherrack walls and ceilings. Then I just have to make the area around the surface portal at the iron grinder look nice, and it's all done.

Some pictures because why not.
The renovated tunnel to the surface, now 2 wide and all cobble so in the rare case you got Ghasts after you it doesn't blow up.

And the actual CARTS station, only one destination so far, capacity for 5.

Do those buttons set a different destination each?
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-19 19:00:46 UTC Post #319880
Yes, each button changes which track you exit on and go on towards that destination. The tracks just need to be hooked into the station with an inbound/outbound track. All of the inbound tracks are funneled into one track so that they all lead to the platform. Then you can go on to somewhere else or leave the track.

You really didn't have to actively go exploring to find a Mesa biome, brendanmint. As it's the last biome we don't have access to, and due to a kind heart and large biomes, there's a simple solution: ask Atom, the Seed Holder.

Kind sir, would you please provide rough coordinates for a Mesa biome, so that we may build a nether line to it? We prey that it isn't so far out, that it increases the already ridiculous 3.3 gigapixel size of the map.

There are 3 mesa biomes visible on that map, to the left, top and right of spawn. The mesa biome on the left has a mushroom island biome (the bright purple) to the right of it, I say try to get to that one.
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-20 15:02:08 UTC Post #319913
Yep. Already planned out the expedition route. Going to mushy island then mesa. Gathering food and moving out.

Posted 10 years ago2014-06-20 15:13:16 UTC Post #319914
It should be known that, I checked, and it's ~8 times the distance from spawn that my desert is. Not only is that a major expedition, but it will have a sizeable impact on the size of the map.

Those you still have trouble w/ the render have been warned.

Through the nether, it could be the same distance. Grab some pals and some enchanted diamond picks and you could be there in minutes.

I can give you the coords of the mushroom island, then you can do some math to figure out where to build a new portal in the Nether so that when you go through it, you'll exit out of the portal ON the mushroom island. From there you can easily get to the mesa west of the mushroom island.

I'm not going to bother with Nether overview renders anyway.
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-20 15:49:10 UTC Post #319917
Nether overview render sounds like it would be an indecipherable mess. Oh I'm under that rock? No that one! No no that rock I'm under! Anyways, that would be helpful, I have the materials to make portal on me right now too. Math shouldn't be too terribly hard.
brendanmint brendanmintBrendan
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-20 17:51:45 UTC Post #319919
I already did the math. Build the portal at -2224 -869 in the Nether. Go through, and you should end up in a closed off cave below a small island south-east of the main island, as shown here in the red circle:
User posted image
You'll have to dig up to get to the surface.
The mesa biome is obviously to the west of the island.

Pretty:

Well, I made it, 4th Survey Corps Expedition has been a success. The mushroom isles have been claimed for the free peoples of TWHLia(or whatever the hell this is). Not sure if I should run to the mesa or what. Bit sleepy.

Me riding off into the sunset from the mushroom island:

I DID IT. YESSSSSSSS.

EDIT EDIT:
Heading off to sleep, when I awake I'll start work on a railway to the portal from the CARTS station. That way transporting tools and materials won't be such a butt. Then after that I'll make a portal in the mesa biome and add a small rail between that portal and the mushroom portal in the nether. Adding another line to the station for that would be a waste of iron and gold.

The TWHL Bank is officially open to the public!

User posted image

There is a public display for the Ender Dragon's Egg (which should be brought in by whoever is keeping it) and a vault in the basement with an Ender chest for secure storage. Maybe Atom could hire a teller to have behind the desk?

Alternatively I thought the Egg may be kept at the Vault and ender chests should just be an ATM-type network with chests at various locations through the world.

You people go have a look at it and give your opinion.

Just had a ridiculous encounter.

While exploring a mineshaft, I found a Zombie Villager caught in a Cobweb, so I killed what turned out to be her. I say this, because after I killed it, I turned around to find three Baby Zombies (at least two of which had armor, w/ one of them having a full Chain set w/ at least one enchanted piece), running at me. They, of course, killed me, and when I got back down there to get my revenge, they had despawned, having avenged their mother.

Only in Minecraft.

The iron grinder may be broken, or I don't know how to use it. I stood there for about 45 minutes and only got 8 ingots.
Posted 10 years ago2014-06-30 04:51:16 UTC Post #320045
It's broken :( Well, half broken. Only one of the spawners is working, because the villagers at the bottom spawner don't want to get up to having 10 villagers, which is the minimum for golems to spawn. Not sure how to fix at the moment. Might have to catch and cure another zombie villager.

EDIT: I transplanted a villager from the secondary spawner to the primary, so now the primary is up to ten, and the secondary quickly mated and are at 10. AFK'ing with the grinder tonight to see if this fixes the grinder.
