Anyone looking for a team to enter GameBanana's Journey to the Center of the Earth, search no further!

I (aka Captain Terror) would be happy to admin this if noone else wants to, but if you are interested in leading the project please speak up!

If anyone is down we should start talking about theme ideas and layouts right away--whether here or in private--, and I can setup a dropbox for everyone to share files.

If you are not currently a dropbox user, please allow me to send you an invite, since it will give us more space to work with (you're awarded 500MB of space per referral).

If not team.twhl, I would encourage anyone to start up you're own teams! Team projects are extremely fun and can be a great way to acquire some new skills

I'd recommend everybody use Sledge for this, so we're all on the same page compatibility-wise. if you must use Hammer though, go right ahead

Also we'll be using the latest VHLT for the compile tools. no exceptions on this one!

Kk! feel free to add files/ideas to the dropbox until then(I sent an invite to your profile email if that's still current). I will start brainstorming ideas too and maybe upload some stuff in there by morning

We should probably also start practicing with twister for some smexy GS displacements for cave-type stuff. (I will try to mess with it a little tonight)

Ok... is all of TWHL a team? cuz if so I can provide some stuff but if it's a small 2-3 person team, I can't devote too much time.

Otherwise I say we need to start with step 1: a layout.
Not sure what to do about the theme though. Maybe a deep-earth upside-down suspended rock complex of science or something. Suspended over magma or whatever.

This doesn't mean I'm [b]in[/b] just throwing my two-cents in.

No Zeeba, I'm not using team.twhl's account. CapT is probably using it. I can say that because I recognize his maniacal text formatting and his "=)" emoticons haha.

Tho, I also recommend Mediafire, as it gives 51 GB of free space for any account (invited or not).

Also, take a look at the latest Stojke's map, he's made a really good job on it and could be of great help for the contest.

The way Team.Twhl has worked in the past is you devote what time you can; I'm sure whatever time you'd be able to contribute in the time we have would be fine.

And yeah it's hard to notice the "I" in the first post--before PB edited it--is a hyperlink that points to my profile. If I had rights to edit the first post, would have modified yesterday to make it more clear

I don't want to commit to this because my spare time is really up in the air at the moment, but I wish you all the best of luck.

I've been pattering away at a layout whilst rendering at work, so I may enter solo if I get a chance to bring it into Sledge, but it'd just be as a break from The Core rather than a serious entry.

I'll be on steam in an hour or two zeebs if that works for ya. I don't use facebook really but I'd be willing to install skype if need be

Google talk(now hangouts I think?) is another convenient way to keep in touch if you never used it.

I have no idea what I could feasibly contribute. I'm good with starting stuff but I'm terrible with the end-game. Maybe I can make the skybox or something, I have the know-how and such to do that. Perhaps some important non-gimmicky well needed models for some stuff as well. Gotta know what things are before I commit to doing that much work when I can't actually afford it.

We need a rough. If archie is putting forth a layout, he needs to display every one of his ideas early and often so we can decided and feedback. Also, plotting the floors in hammer/sledge is also a fast way to concept in a 3D space that pen/paper seems to lack.

For anyone that is interested I will Pm you a brief that Captain put together upon our brainstorm sesh last night. Rimrook, there are a few models involved but skybox may not be too important since it will be below ground level. We've also come up with a few texture ideas that we need. Either I can desperately try to make them in photoshop or if you want, you could probably whip them out like no bodies business.

Of course I could whip them out like it's nobody's business but that takes time and I have a massively overloaded queue of work I need to do for the next couple months. THAT's the kicker. :/

I can't hand-paint every square inch of this map. Though I can help a bit. Doesn't Urby do textures? The core looks pretty snazzy and if it's subterraneous then we have some options.

I want to fully participate but my priorities are shifting. I'm doing that thing that adults do. Ya know, adulting and junk.

Yea, I feel the same. I'm working along with trying to move out of my dad's house. I'm going on 26 for Christ's sake. Well, there's only a few textures I have in mind that will need to be completely custom made. The rest I should be able to manage. I'll let you know and you can decide if you're interested.

Yeaaa, I attempted making textures, and they blow. But the animated texture for the floating pads is cool imo, check out the bsp.

^^ Same here! TBH we shouldn't need that many custom ones, but at least we now have Rimmeh for the few really important ones that we do! I'll still play at creating the 'techy' ones we spoke about, but no promises on a good end result

That floating pad is awesome Zeeba-G, the animated texture looks great! I'm so excited to see what we'll be able to collectively come up with

Since other people are doing things like layout and textures, I'm looking at things like color, light and light sources, shapes and visual language etc. starting with limestone caves, I like seeing the sugary white look of it, and with deep earth we get orange and burnt reds from magma. Borg tech is like gun metal and green. Many of the spaces may as well have sub themes of their own with one or two combined sets of visuals. I could scratch up some conceptual design to illustrate what I mean when I nab some time.

As soon as a plan is good enough, plot out the floors only in hammer, sky box it, and pass it around as soon as possible. We all need to know the space immediately so we can all help to refine it.

I'm prototyping some cave hallways and 'Techy' structures & supports now, will upload to the DB if anything looks good.

Was browsing to see what Feng Zhu had to offer and I found these.

It's like he painted what I had in mind but way better than what I could do. If we take those shapes/visual language and such and apply our own design, I think we can knock this out of the park. We still have magma and limestone stala(gm)(ct)ites and rocks so break a bunch of that into scenes like these and we could have something awesome.

I've see sketches of the drill digger. I can start modelling that out asap but in case I can't, there needs to be a backup plan. For now Plan A though.

That is rll cool.
Can you set up some trigger for when the bomb goes off (a normally unreachable func_breakable or something)? Wouldn't be hard to make some collapsing-cavern effects (falling rocks and quaking, etc) if so.
