But not for The Core :( Can we get some juicy core screenshot goodness please?

Don't be silly. They'd have to make more maps to get screenshots of!

We'd show you more, but we'd have to kill you. That would be a massive inconvenience for us.

They'd have to go buy some bleach and lye, and get out the heavy-duty shovels, and that would just take all day.

Exactly! Christ, we've got a mod to work on.

Incidentally, if the complete lack of updates on TWHL or Bi-Monthly updates on MoDDB aren't enough, we sometimes do a twitter, or something

UPDATES

We're getting some more attention lately. We won RTSL's Most Anticipated mod, beating Prospekt in the final head to head round (by a considerable margin I might add)

And the winner is The Core.

Was there any doubt? This is probably going to win next year too.

“No, don’t talk like that Phillip, by then it will have been released!” Let’s hope the mod keeps being updated and it gets released this year.
This has also earned us a mention on Valve News Network, with Tyler stating that he will cover the mod in more detail soon. :D

good luck with The Core project.. but remember my number one is Residual Life

we will see
Posted 8 years ago2016-01-31 21:29:16 UTC Post #328596
Hm I never understood the thing with Residual Life.. The author there keeps showing new screens and every few years enhances upon it in form of a new release and I must have played through it like 3,4 times now due to that..

He should rather let it rest as it was finished literally and start with something new.

As for "The Core" well there wasn't much doubt that you folks would once again win in the upcoming mod category. So congratulations "again". :P
Posted 8 years ago2016-02-01 01:13:08 UTC Post #328603
which is why i'm not playing it again till 1.5 comes out. But you have to admit they really had to do something about that 'you jump into a pipe, the game ends' ending that they had when it first came out

Anyway knowing urby's mapping from twhl tower, I expect this mod (the core) to be mercilessly difficult and I will be playing it on HARD because i'm a glutton for FUN

I know I'm biased because it's originally my mod, but The Core is looking pretty sexy these days. Mostly Archie's sections :P

If there are barely any mods in 2017, my mod's probably gonna be the most anticipated one... Or a great mod can just spawn out of nowhere and kill me.

Interesting questions, it's good to know the challenges and such you had during the development of The Core.

This video was shot after moving house. Half of our stuff was still in boxes, we'd lost the house that we originally went for because the landlord pulled out but we'd already given notice to move out of our old place. All this with a three month old baby and generally not giving a shit how i look resulted in my looking like that nine months ago. :P

As long as by "finish" you mean something other than "shoot between the eyes", I think that would be an agreeable course of action.

Hopefully there can't be that much left after all this time, certainly?

Hopefully there's just the last stretch or something before release.

Maybe after all this time and work on your mod you are willing to give TWHL community an opportunity to test your work before the public release so you could polish the end product and of course at least have an excuse of why you're delaying this further? ;)

So basically Urby had a kid and my career took off.

My advice would be to get me fired + kidnap urby's kid. Otherwise it's going to continue to take forever.

We are most certainly in the last stretch. The problem is that it is getting harder and harder to find time or drive to work on it.

When you work for 8 hours, travel for 2 and then have to go home to a toddler, it can usually mean you only get a couple of hours of time to yourself and you don't necessarily want to spend that working on something.

Sometimes you need to blow of steam with a quick game of something, other times you just want to relax and do literally nothing.

I'm not saying that I'm not enjoying it when I do work on The Core, but there is always something else that needs doing in the back of my mind.

It sucks to admit, but my mapping/modding future is looking bleak. After The Core, I think I'll be taking a very VERY long break from it.

I certainly know the feeling with exception of the toddler.

You guys get back to it when you get back to it - so no pressure. :) Good luck.
Posted 7 years ago2017-07-17 14:24:11 UTC Post #336106
I know the feeling of no longer having motivation or time to work on something. Motivation happened with Colony 42, and both that and time happened on Hazard Course - luckily for the latter I had a team, so when we did have time we could push each other towards getting back on track.

We'll be patiently (for the most part) waiting for The Core until whenever you manage to finish it, so no sweat there. Take as much time as you need, and after The Core, we'll patiently wait for your return.

In the meantime though, I'm gonna work on getting Archie kidnapped and hiring Urby's kid. Possibly in the reverse order, as it's much harder to kidnap a grown man by yourself than it is an infant.
