E3! Let's discuss!

Copypasta below:

What is E3?
The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3, is an event that happens every year in Los Angeles. It's usually where the big companies announce new stuff (i.e. Microsoft, Sony, and to a lesser extent, Nintendo) like games, hardware, consoles, and really pretty much everything to do with games. Ubisoft and EA also make appearances, but interestingly enough, Activision do not (though they usually manage to get a Call of Duty trailer in there anyway).

Why is it cool?
If you're interested in gaming at all, E3 is the biggest dump of new information that happens every year. The keynotes almost always feature brand new trailers, gameplay, hardware, services, and of course, new games! It's always fun to hear new stuff to look forward to. E3 is focused on western gaming (Microsoft, Ubisoft, EA), but Nintendo and Sony usually inject some Japanese gaming influence in there as well, so there's always something interesting no matter what your gaming tastes are!

I'll post updates after each keynote with all the interesting stuff, but if you want to watch the conferences live, just visit any big gaming website (GameSpot, IGN, GameTrailers, etc) and find their E3 coverage.

Is anyone else excited about E3? Any predictions you would like to share? I'll be posting my own predictions before each keynote starts. I'm too lazy to post predictions.

PS: Before anyone suggests it: Half-Life 3 will NOT be announced this year. In fact, it will NEVER be announced at any E3, ever! (Though I would not mind if I was wrong about this)

End E3 copypasta

EA has already done their thing, but it was pretty crap unless you care about Battle[front|field].

i reckon hl3 will be announced

Anyway, now that that is out of the way... didn't see much at EA that interested me (not that surprising, I can't imagine what would interest me from E3). I've seen people up on the looks of The Way Out, or whatever it was called.

I shan't predict.

Bethesda is all I'm interested in this year. Hoping to hear something about Starfield, but otherwise I'm guessing we'll get a Quake Champions release date and some Fallout VR news, neither of which really interest me.

I'm also expecting to see Far Cry 5 gameplay, and I really hope it's not gonna be another generic Ubisoft game...

Microsoft just finished. Some new stuff, all looked fairly boring to me though. They're really trying to sell the XBONEX (I'm calling it Xboner), trying to pretend that it's not the exact same thing that Sony already did with the PS4 pro. Revolutionary and all that.

The only things that might interest me at this E3 are:
  • Bethesda/Machine Games - Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
  • Bethesda/Id Software - RAGE 2
  • Gearbox Software - Borderlands 3
  • Croteam/Devolver Digital - Serious Sam 4
On what has been announced so far:
  • Electronic Arts: Another Battlefront? Meh. The BF1 DLC? Meh. NFS: Payback? Meh.
  • Merging all Minecraft versions: I don't play the game anymore but it's glad to see that Microsoft finally realized that having 4640846 versions is just confusing for players.
  • Quake Champions: Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Quake fan but I think the license has taken the wrong turn since Quake Live and Quake Champions is just hitting the nail deeper.
  • VR games: Who cares about that, it's not accessible for everyone (yet) ?
Valve may not be at E3 but if anyone ask my opinion:

I just don't care about them anymore like they don't care about us, they can make their 3 VR games on their freshly outdated new engine (Source 2).

RAGE 2 is a thing? The game flopped.

Summary of Bethesda conference:

DOOM VR
Fallout 4 VR
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind
Creation Club (aka paid mods)
The Elder Scrolls: Legends Heroes of Skyrim
Skyrim on Nintendo Switch
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Quake Champions
The Evil Within 2
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

So no RAGE 2 but at least Wolfenstein 2 seems pretty awesome.

Wolfenstein was literally the only interesting thing they showed.

I think what saved Bethesda's ass is Wolfenstein 2 and the new Dishonored, the rest is pure crap.

That Devolver Digital conference tho, small games but quite special.

Well.... it seems that Ubisoft have done something horrible with Beyond Good & Evil.

Devolver showing everyone how to run the show.

Devolver needed to show more games instead of those skits they were doing... They weren't THAT funny.

I feel like their objective was less to show their games and more to generate PR by taking the piss out of E3.
I'm fine with this. I'm also fine with Sony's method of having a guy come out to talk for 2 minutes and then doing nothing else but back-to-back trailers of games that looked quality.

Microsoft's method of having a guy say "Exclusive" in front of every trailer, even if it actually wasn't, not so much.

I've only caught up on Bethesda and Microsoft so far.

Bethesda was deeply disappointing and I honestly would have preferred if they had showcased Wolfenstein 2 (actually decent looking) and Silent Hill 22 (big old heap of meh) as part of somebody else's show.

Microsoft's X Xbox X One X whatever the fuck is shaping up to be quite a decent mid-range PC... I guess. Otherwise, Anthem COULD be good if Bioware doesn't Bioware all over it. It could be quite fun to blast through an open world game in customisable combat suits with the SnC crew. :P

Welp, guess I can't skip the 3DS after all.

@Jessie: The Mario + Rabbids game looked weird, def. wasn't expecting that. I'm not sure what to make of it. Not a fan of X-com and similar, so most likely passing on this one too, even if they slapped Mario on top of it. I just don't get the "Mario vibe" from it.

Always been a sucker for fps/tps mmorpg-ish, glad to be seeing some new titles on the market after so many years where the genre seemed to dying off, save for Destiny. And definitely trying out Lawbreakers as they go in open beta on the 28th.
I bet The Last Night gave a boner to anyone that likes pixel art. Also that new Ori game looks amazing, more like a painting than a game.

Anyway, can't help but feel the AAA giants have been more aggressive towards each other this year than ever before. Everyone wants a piece of the pie and is willing to compete for the exact same genre, which is totally great for me :P, resulting in almost identical games to chose from. I'm just hoping most of the "bad marketing" practices of the industry don't follow up along with the games.

As someone who is pretty passionate about the Monster Hunter series, I am viewing the announcement of Monster Hunter World with an eager, yet apprehensive, eye. Very curious to see what that is all about.

Lawbreakers actually looks pretty good. I'm not much of a fan of Cliffy B, but it actually looks like a pretty fast paced and fun shooter. Definitely looks better than anything modern id has put out in the past few years.

Ubisoft Conference:

Mario + Rabbids - Meh. Not a fan of turn based strategy shooters or whatever you call them.

The Crew 2 - People played The Crew?

Transference - Another bloody horror game that is only made less appealing by VR

Assassin's Creed Origins - Another bloody Assassin's Creed. This years flavour is sand.

Just Dance - NOPE

Skull and Bones - Let's take the best part of our best received Assassin's Creed game and join the MOBA market. Looks alright, I guess.

Far Cry 5 - The game I was most interested in and the gameplay hasn't really swayed me either way. It looks a lot like the previous games in a new setting, which is what I was expecting I guess. Would have been nice if they demonstrated the new features, such as the customisation that they mentioned.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 - I know absolutely nothing about the original, other than the name. This clearly wasn't gameplay sooo, pointless. Also, the characters seem to punctuate sentences with the word 'fuck.'

Swearing is cool.

I attended E3 in person this year. I was there yesterday and today.

I participated in many of the panel discussion regarding behind the scene game design decisions. It was interesting to hear their perspective and their struggle during the implementation process.

Some of them were shameless pitches to the fans for their upcoming games, but many of them were insightful.

The God of War and Far Cry 5 discussions were most entertaining.
