Is there anyway to make textures lights turn on and off or is that just with point lights?

Only with point, I believe. I know in the NS FGD there is support for texlight control over appearance, though, so if you map for NS you're in luck. Dunno if they can be targeted though.

What is NS?

I noticed that in the c1a0 map of HL there is a room with the periodical table of elements and a dry-erase board. There is also a light switch that turns off the lights. I think maybe they used off light textures and put point lights just below them. What do you think?

Ah, you speak of the room across from the G-Man? Yeah, I think they used point lights and just toggledthem, with lights on and hitting the off light texture, it looks the same as being on.

And for NS, it's only one of the best Half-Life Mods available - Natural Selection. Check it out over at Moddb or naturalselection.org

They used point-based lights in that room. HL doesn't use switchable texture lights, although it's possible nowadays with another version of the compilers. I'm not sure on what version though.

You might try searching the VERC for an article about it:

Hmm. How about making the object with the texlight a button_target and use a button on it?

Doesn't work. I tried it out for ensurance but just as I suspected, the light doesn't go off when the button switches.

you can make switchable tex. lights - just get the proper tools and know how to add info_ entities manually...
