Not like I'm putting that much work into the newer version of full_city (for cs this time) but I think its looking just as good as any other map I've made (maybe i'm so skilled now that I don't need to work much to make a map look good, ooooo ahhhh)
Anyway, the map will have gone through some drastic changes when I release it as de_full_city, things including:
-Street lights
-(maybe) a night environment or somewhat dark environment(so I can use the street lights)
-add back old city map style of being able to walk into a building. (I'll only have one walkable building and that will only be a room and the first floor)
-some other stuff that I havent thought of yet.

I'll get some screenshots very soon, don't know why I want to preview this map, but then again, I previewed ca_the_towers, why not preview this?

If you want to see the original full_city, here it is:
http://cariad.co.za/twhl/mapvault_map.php?id=1149
You need counter strike because it uses cs_assault.wad and cs_bdog.wad

The r_speeds on that will exceed 1000.

Looks like one big piece of LAAAAAGGGGGG

OMG! That will lag more than playing Hl2 on a Pentium 133 at 1600x1200! And that will be slow!
m0p m0pIllogical.

Dont overrid it.
I play 1600 wpolys just fine, but low end computers and non-bb users are gonna have it rough.

Get the original full_city, there is actually no lag at all. A very smooth map despite all the open areas.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-12 14:44:29 UTC Post #32726
You cant try lag when you're admin, you know.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-12 16:39:57 UTC Post #32762
Look up what "lag" means before using it so gratuitously.

Why are there sodamachines on the middle of the (seemingly to be) roundabout?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-13 13:19:05 UTC Post #33022
Ive seen open maps with high r_speeds lag me before, if the level lags, it will lag for me too. Ive seen it done before and there is nothing wrong with this level. So get the original map so I can prove ou wrong and that the map doesn't lag.

Compiling de_full_city right now. Its gone through some DRASTIC changes. Light posts (duh), glow sprites under each light post and a light under each light post(will be a NIGHTMARE for vis), a night environment, a new sky, the bomb target is the vending area in the middle of the big intersection and when the bomb goes off soda cans fly everywhere (he he), and I added an indoor room (enterable via ventelation shaft) with a reflective floor. Probably some other changes that I didn't take note of but I can't remember them all right now

Think of 56k users and people with low-end computers, you can't test a map fully from one single comp.

you can try adding 31 bots in it... see if it... um... lags?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-13 21:01:10 UTC Post #33150
OK, first of all, if r_speeds lag a map, it will have nothing to do with what kind of internet you have. And if someone is lagging because of slow internet and not r_speeds, then they will probably lag on a bunch of other stuff too.

You do know we are talking about de_full_city right? the map you hate? Ya know?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-17 00:21:16 UTC Post #34070
found it.... screen shots at the following link

http://freespace.virgin.net/savage.101/screens/citymap.htm

all the textures are mine by the way except for the one on the cathedral and the appartments. they are by kyle george, but the factury windows, bricks and ground textures are all my work.

Looks awesome. Lights looked a bit weird, the light texture at the edge wrapped around the rest of the poll, just looked weird. And the one-unit thick walls were also weird
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-17 00:40:28 UTC Post #34086
i dont know what you mean whats weird about the lights. and 1 unit thick walls what on earth are you talking about all my walls are atleast 8units.

oh i c what you mean about the light textures. thats on purpase it give it depth, thats what street lights look like in the UK they have glass covered over the bulbs. i dont know about other parts of the world.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-17 00:45:17 UTC Post #34092
oh and those walls are not 1 unit think its a perspective trick becouse of the angle of the shot the top of the wall is textured the same as the side to look like cemented bricks. look carfully.
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-17 00:46:33 UTC Post #34093
Is the top one brick thick by any chance?
Posted 20 years ago2004-06-17 00:58:06 UTC Post #34097
Naw, that cant be 1 unit. 1 unit is really really tiny in the game. Those have to be at least 4 units.

Walls in my maps range from 6 to 10 units thick.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Well the angle I saw as hard to tell how many units it was.
