Does anyone have a URL for a download of software that can pack (not just unpack) hl files?

Wally or PakScape are capable of writing to and from PAK files.

Wally can only make textures

You have to register with FP to download anything from there. It's free. You can opt to have no download lines and pay, though.

Wally can make textures and PAKs to store models, sound, maps, and other game files in, in a variety of formats. It doesn't perform incredibly great for making textures by hand, just for editing sizes/palettes/small things. Look into Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro for image editing.

What program can I make models with other than Milkshape 3d which I have a 30 day free trial for I have to keep reinstalling from the .zip file?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-09 15:37:55 UTC Post #39978
well, there are no free programs for that, the cheapest would be milkshape, the we go to cinema4d wiht 1500 euros
then 3dstudiomax around 3000
and softimage is the most expensive use for some fillms. wiht around 6000-10.000

Isn't SoftImage XSI Free for Half-Life 2 editing?

Well, you could always buy milkshape for 15 or so dollars, its a lot less expensive than all of the other tools.

If not milkshape, I'd go with Cinema4d.

Isn't SoftImage XSI Free for Half-Life 2 editing?
Yes. Although that version has some limits, it's free and workable.

I have the full SoftImage|XSI with hl2 exporters (ripped from EXP for Half-Life 2) and it rocks. I would definately check out the EXP version if you don't wanna pay for it.

It's sooo big...~600mb....I really need something faster than 56k. Time to become really good friends with people who have cable ;) . Does it have any really unique features that set it aside from other editors? I saw a tut on how to make characters with it on ERC and it was as simple as pressing a few buttons and, voila! A person!

Hmm....person prefabs. Well, it was what the article said.

I have some old version of 3dsMAX I got for cheap...maybe I'll go get Softimage|XSI and see how it works.
