i'm not sure if anyone have asked this before,
but what texture is the best (best for r_speeds) to use places that you dont see?
like outside the map?

NULL or BEVEL.

I just looked now and those textures dont exist.

....or black, but unless you change the colour of your 3D backgound you wont be able to see anything.

MkT: Use ZHLT.WAD.

The outside of the map should be discarded by VIS anyway.

What's BEVEL?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-30 14:08:30 UTC Post #46766
If you don't have Null or Bevel then making the textures have a scale of 10.00 to 15.00 will make your patches go way down, speeding up compile time. Do this for anything the player won't see.

AFAIK, what you paint the outside of your map with is irrelevent as those faces will not be rendered.

Exactly... You can texture the outside of your map with anything, it won't make the slightest difference as the textures are stripped when you compile. Texture on the outside of the map has nothing to do with r_speeds. (ed:Andy)

Vox, having textures scaled above 10 often causes those bad surface extent errors. Scale the textures to soemthing like 9.90 for faces that still might be rendered but not visible, or use NULL.
