Do people here tend to make their own avatars or get ones off the net?
For those that do make their own avatars, what programs do you use to make them?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 05:05:12 UTC Post #47003
I make my own avatars with photoshop.
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 05:05:59 UTC Post #47004

Anything you can do in Photoshop, I can do just as quickly in PSP, and less resource-intensively :P

I have psp and ps and ps is much easier and more powerful.
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 06:27:26 UTC Post #47031
I also have them both (two of each, in fact), and PSP is far easier, can do just as much, and doesn't use absurb quantities of RAM. Loads instantly too.

hefsys: I guessed from the pointless white streak ;)

How do I make non-pixellated looking images in MS paint? Is this possible?
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-05 01:06:10 UTC Post #48021
Pixelation is often caused by saving into jpeg format due to compression.

how come all weebl and bob pictures are all pixelated, no matter what program you use when you upload it to TWHL...?

Nice Av, Rabid

They really don't look fine to me. Like in yours where the little CS crosshair looking things are :D . Its all...... weird, like you edited it in paint and it stuffed up the quality of the pic.

And mine, around the speach bubble and around weebl's head, it also looks like I edited it in paint, which I didn't. I used photoshop 7 and saved it as a .jpeg, with the quality set as 10! It looks fine on my computer, yet it is low quality with TWHL. Maybe it reduces the size on all of our avatars or something, its just with the pink background you notice it most.

It might reduce the filesize and add more compression so it fits.

It looks more blurry to me than pixelated though.

Posted 20 years ago2004-08-06 02:34:37 UTC Post #48322
Actually rabid, I haven't really noticed much difference in picture quality when converting from .bmp to .jpeg. I am really just saying that any avatars I make in MS paint that are supposed to resemble objects in "real" life look very fake (cartoonish & pixellated even in .bmp). That's why I got my avatar from a wildlife page & saved it in paint rather than do it myself.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-06 03:15:36 UTC Post #48341
Paint doesn't use anti-aliasing for its drawing tools. Look that up :P

The JPEG blobs are called artifacts. Doesn't help, just techie trivia.

On the subject of jpegs and assorted gubbins: I find if you turn your saturation up a tiny tiny bit in an image before making it jpeg, it greatly removes the 'artifacts'.
artifacts, heh...you learn something new every day!
