yeah they did that in sweet half life. but do we want 2 end up with sumtin like the challenger deep? seriously that mod made me hav 2 hide in the cupboard weeping with shame. and docrock made quite a funny entry 4 1 of the comps

ok it is sonding like it could work.
we have good ideas.
andy is the 1 that people want as a leader.
all we need is the map small maps shod have a judge so they are good and a support person just in chass and a story that continues throw owte the maps but dusnt kill the fun with all cut sens and no game

I vote for Andy... For what I know of him he seems to be a reasonable and diplomatic person, capable of taking the whole thing... If he wants to. Let?s not assign roles still (I mean, I?m not telling what to do, I?m suggesting :D) and let?s drop ideas and more ideas without thinking about if it will be in spirit or sporot.

When Andy mentioned starting this project, I know he was not intending to use spirit. I don't even think he was talking about creating a mod. Take another look at his original post up there. I think he just wanted each of us to make our own map however we wanted (in HL) and then we would join them together to see what we end up with. I could be wrong, we'll just have to wait for Andy to get online and speak for himself. I definitely don't want to dampen the enthusiasm you have shown so far. (I did though, didn't I?) :(

Andy is moving... And as I?ve said before and SlayerA has shown, this thing has... Evolved a little from a bunch of maps to a wannabe mod. I wonder how will Andy?s face look when he gets online again and sees what we?ve done!!!!.
But the mod idea looks exciting!!!!!!!.
One more suggestion if we get it to work... Weekly uploading of all maps for people to play and look at.

ima in to if its for normal hl and i can make some great outdoor maps only i did not yet tryed any tropical themes but iam goign to give that a try ..... working on a map called deseerraod all outdoor i think it looks fine so far with a osprey lookign thing you can control :D and some cars driving around. so i would like to be in to and if someone doesnt od his wokr fine can i drive the jeep then??. and my brothers ahs a band maby they would liek to write some music and play it they recorded their first cd so i can ask it if they would like to do that. and i can make a kind of special website to put some information on caue i have to share 50 mb wiht my brother so i have 25 mb :)

it seems everyone wants to be 'the leader' or be incharge of converting all the maps to spirit...
WHY?

what's the rush?

why can't we wait and practice some mapping skilz eh? Make your maps better?

why can't we organise and make up out minds about more important things...

Wait untill andy gets back with his ideas, Afterall, no one made any decisions about the mod engine, or story, This was just started to see what ideas, not decisions or pet hates other people have, Don't assume the worst, wait untill this gets on its feat first.

Then, we will make up out minds on what this should be like

i can focus on outdoor maps and some one els will turn the maps into spirit maps wiht all the stuff and so so that you dont have to download spirit and learn it. btw i love the newreflecting effect from spirit

hey just read this post... fascinating, this sounds intense. I'm all for contributing to some mod / modlet / mapseries

But what kind of maps are we talking about? I would make map for this if I had an idea what we are trying to set up. Whats the general scheme, just kinda like Halflife game, you got grunts running around and aliens teleporting around and your trying to shoot them all? I'm not even so concerned with ambience, thats easily changed with texture replace. I just dont want to set up a series of xen aliens if there are no aliens, and no toxic vats of goo if ther are no toxic vats of goo.

Not to complain or anyhting, but if this mod is about power to the people, i'd like to get started sometimes when i'm bored, cause this is the kinda thing you do at insomniac 2:00 in the morning, and it ends up looking really cool. So if we could just get a very general plot description, or not even a plot, a setting and a descriptoin of enemies, that would be vera nise

Ummm,
Took a little longer than a week :-)
I have moved house 2000km's north and am just getting everything unpacked.
Once I finish the Christmas present that I am working on, I will give some more time to this topic, but as I said earlier it is just an idea.
Now that most of you have show interest I really should get something together, but here is a little taste of what I will be looking for.
Have a read of Kol's suggestions... There is a lot of good stuff there, but I think that we should start with a really simple project.
I will make an announcment in the News at the begining of next year, but if you want a head start, the idea is to create a simple single room map using anything that is available with the Retail or Downloadable version of Half-Life.
The Idea is to combine dozens of maps from different people to show off your amazing mapping skills. Once the basic rmf's are completed, some will be chosen to have an added level change to reduce the size of the final project.
REMEMBER... this is a simple project.... Make a room that has an entrance and an exit, what you put in the middle is up to you and your imagination, but you must be able to get from one end to the other.
Notice that I haven't mentioned Monsters or scripts... That comes later.
Sound boring?
Well when you see the little project I am doing now (Xmas release) then you might change your mind.
This is NOT intended to be a mod... it is a journey of maps.

The delay in the release is due to pretty much the same reason that the last compo results were delayed.
I can't finish it without all the material, and I am waiting on a few more pieces of the puzzle.

So to save any further heartache, I won't let you know when it might be released. Same goes for compo results, tutorials in writing, and anything else that we collectively give a deadline. That will save me working late to meet them and makes me very happy.

Thank you for your comment pepper and high_voltage, you just gave me the excuse I needed and made my day.
