ok, so im texturing this shed thing, and one of the faces has both the world and face checkboxes ticked, and when I click on either one of those checkboxes, nothing happens; both boxes stay ticked. After exploring my map a little, I found a lot more textures like this. I think all of those problems happened on faces facing the same direction. any suggestions?

i've never noticed these checkboxes before so i opened a map to check them out. all my brushes are different when i click on them, some have both boxes checked, others 1 or the other, others neither. i could find no disernable pattern e.g. there all facing the same direction. i have no idea what these checkboxes "align to world" or "align to face" do either. i'll play around with it and write back.

Align to World aligns textures on faces to the world's texture orientation settings, while align to face aligns that texture to the face it's on.

Align to world is what should be used most of the time, Align to Face is mainly useful on signs or textures with text on them.

I don't know why this "error" of both boxes being checked occurs, but if you need to switch alignments for certain things like decal application, you can set negative scale values.

They are both checked when a face points up or towards 0 degrees

Error? Problem?
fizscy46 is semi-right.
Both boxes being checked only means that the face is perpendicular to the world alignment.
These boxes tell the game where the normals for the textures of a face is pointing. If it is parallel to the X, Y and Z axes of the world, you'll have both boxes checked.

you'll notice that the both checked boxes only occur on one side, this is because all doors and text are aligned on one side to fit correctly so it's readable, so just reverse the other side if you need them both to match, it's not a large problem though

You get both boxes checked when you've selected an entire brush before you bring up the texture application tool. When you have the texture app tool up and click on a face in the 3D view, the boxes should change.
