When i try to run my map (with all the correct things in place besides the one thing i can't figure out) it says it can't find my map even though it is in my custom game folder. The only way i have gotten it to work is when the map is in the Half-Life maps folder.

I am not sure whether this belongs in the mods catigory or the general questions catigory.

In plain words, it wants to load from my half-life amps directory insted of my custom game's maps directory.
Hope this makes the problem more clear.

Just check don't run game, play your mod and go into console (~) and type "map (map name)" without the ""
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-11 20:59:37 UTC Post #58317
What do you mean by 'just check don't run game'? I have multiplayer maps to go with it, but singleplayer must work from valve's maps folder not my custom game's. I know how to use the console command, but i want it to run in my mod/custom game.

If it's a mod, it has to be setup as a mod (see the tutorials on how to do that) and your map will be in <your mod folder>/maps folder. Once you've setup your mod (which is more than just putting a map in a mod folder), go into the Custom Game menu and activate your mod.

I have done all of that, it was one of the first 10 tutorials i read, and I have the liblist.gam, dlls, and the folders set up correctly but is doesn't work.

Not sure what you mean by "doesn't work."

Can you activate your mod but New Game doesn't work or the mod won't activate at all?

Is the map folder in your mod called map or maps?
It is meant to be maps.

If it is trying to access your HL maps folder, then there is a chance that the startmap name in the liblist.gam is not the same as the actual map name, or the folder is named incorrectly.

This all assumes that you have activated your custom game?
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-12 09:49:11 UTC Post #58509
Yes I have been able to activate my mod and get my multiplayer maps started, but single player says (when the map is not in Half-life/maps and in my custom game's maps) 'unable to find "second" in maps... or something like that, but Second is the name of the map.
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-12 11:57:10 UTC Post #58533
How are you trying to start your single-player map?
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-12 17:40:04 UTC Post #58671
What do you mean start, for the singleplayer maps, arent I suppoesed to use playerstart? I have gotten my mod's singleplayer to work with some other maps, but then i left singleplayer alone while i made multiplayer and then it woldn't run correctly.

He means do you write, for instance, map mapname in console or use run -> half-life +map mapname.
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-12 17:50:17 UTC Post #58680
I go into Half-Life and click on custom game and activate it, then click singleplayer and the difficulty then the error appears in the loading console.

That is my liblist.gam. It did work when I had a map named 'first', but then stopped working after a while...
my games name is 'My Game' if that helps, but it worked before even with this name, so I don't think it matters what the name of the game is.

Game name doesn't matter, that's just how it'll show up in your Custom Game menu or your Steam games list. Startmap should match that maps name exactly but further shouldn't matter.

Try to run the map from the console and see what happens. I think it's a problem with your map, not your liblist.gam settings.

Does your mod directory have any odd characters in, including spaces?

But it worked before... even though it shouldn't have worked because of the space in the mod's folder name but I try it again without. but does the game name in the liblist.gam need to match the folder/mod's name?
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-15 22:47:33 UTC Post #59724
No.

The spaces cannot be in as the game chokes up on them and looks in incorrect places for things like maps.

lucky4444, maybe it's a good idea to look at how other mods have done it. I often find such things very helpfull. That way, you could've found out yourself a game's name doesn't have to match it's mod folder name.

And again, have you tested the map from within the console instead of starting it trough the game menu? Since I still think it's a problem with the map...

Please be more helpful---

First give the full directory of your mod
ex. Mine is C:/SIERRA/Half-Life/mymodsname

And also cut and paste your liblist.

And be sure you have the liblist pointing to the right dlls
the liblist should also be in your own mod folder along with the
dlls, save folder, gfx, pak0,|models, sound|(optional)
